Hamster Help! - January 28th 2010, 12:37 AM

I think my hamster is going insane. Lately he's been climbing up the sides of the cage and biting the wire non-stop. I thought maybe he was trying to escape, so I've been taking him out to play more often than usual but that hasn't helped one bit.

Also, I haven't washed him. I clean the cage once a week, but he seems to be covered in urine right now, and I don't know how I'm supposed to go about doing that. Help, please!

Waitin' for my ruca.

Hey courtney first off biting the cage and all that is perfectly fine. Hamsters have constantly growing teeth that they need to break down. Try getting hem toys FROM a pet store for hamsters. And about the pee issue. First check out the symptoms and look around online to see if your hamster has ( wet tail ) its a cold/flu for hamsters it can kill a hamster but be harmles if treated. But if its not wet tail wouldnt worry that much about it. You can wash your hamster by getting a wet wash cloth and rubbing your hamster in it. ( obviously from the neck down and do it GENTLY!) or f you feel safe enough hold the hamster in your hands and wash in the sink with warm water. After your done washing dry your hamster off by holding it in a towel for a couple mins so they dont get a cold breeze or something so they dont get sick. But that should amswer everything i hope.
