Leopard Gecko isn't eating.... -
February 3rd 2010, 09:38 AM
Hey, I seen to remember a few of you here have leos, so I just thought I'd ask.
My leo kinda hasn't been eating. Her staple diet is mealworms, and she hasn't touched them, and that's been for two consecutive feeds, hence that's been four days since she's ate, I'm starting to get worried now. She seems to be defecating fine and stuff, so I don't think it's impaction or gut blockage. She's on lino tiles, hence no loose substrate, and behaviour-wise is as lazy as ever really. I've left a sprinkling of vitamin powder in the mealworm bowl as usual. Everything is the same as ever really, temperatures are 24-26°C at the cool end, and 31-32.5°C at the hot end, with a night time drop to about 28-30°C. Any thoughts? Also, she's a bit on the chubby side and has a nice fat tail, so I'm not at the 'panic-and-take-her-the-vet' stage yet, which is good, since I can't afford the exotic pet vet at the moment ^^; ![]() "My one desire is for peace -- peace for everyone" |

I believe all gecko's 'hibernate' much like snake's and lizards (even without temp change's in there viv).... There still conscious and active but they do less ect... and tend not to eat for days on end and when they do its very little.
I know my leopard gecko has slowed down her eating habits... and she goes days without anything (as do my lizards and snakes atm) I'd say keep an eye on her... Hope she's ok! and starts munching again soon

Ahh, that might be it. Since I just noticed that today, she hasn't been doing her usual thing of snoozing on top of her hide, though when I went up to the tank, she did come out to see what I was doing.
This has been my first year with her you see ^^; My snakes are as active as ever, well, bar my royal, but that's since he's in the blue. Thanks Rach =). I'll leave some mealworms in the bowl for her just in case she changes her mind(until they pupate anyways). ![]() "My one desire is for peace -- peace for everyone" |
