I have this 12 yr. old mare named Whispering Winds or Whisper for short. She was 300 pounds under weight when I got her 7 years ago, but now is a good healthy weight. However she is a colicer and a air cribber ( sucks in air and gets high). I have done everything for this horse she gets water in her grain, applejuice full bucket and water full bucket in her stall. This horse has gotten me through many hard times and now she literally dying in front of my eyes. My parents and I are thinking of putting her down because she has coliced 24 times in last 5 years. i know this is just tearing up her stomach, let alone what happened to her before I got her! Its just I know this is selfish but I really dont know how to live without her and I cant image how life will be! I know that she is always in pain and it the right thing to do to put her down, but we have such a special bond.... i can call her name out in the pasture and she will coming running to be, me and her went from not knowing anything about Barrel racing to winning the championship! Its just so hard to let her go! We are supposed to be putting her down in 2 months |

Can't say i've gone through the exact same thing. But my aunts first horse had to be put down. I use to ride him as a child. Then her next racing horse had to be put down, I know they weren't my horses but I use to visit them a lot or take riding lessons on them. So it is still sad.
But I know it's hard. If its best for her she should be put down. Its not worth letting an animal suffer and get worse. You just have to do what's best for your horse, out of love for her. It will be very hard but eventually you can cope with it and may possibly find something else to preoccupy your mind. Time heals all. =) I hope things turn out for you. Pansexual. Just know that after she passes, she will be free of all pain and suffering. I know it will be hard, but it's for the best.

This is really sad but I think you know deep down it is the best thing for her. I have had horses on loan before and you do become attached to them and it is difficult when they go.

ive been through something similar, but not exactly. my dog developed very bad epilepsy, she died 3 or less months later, she wasnt even two, and she had a special bond to everyone in my family, came to you when you cried, she was cheeky, like a real person. when she died it was awful, everything felt wrong. then to try tohelp months later we got a new puppy, it helped. having something else to love will help, it sounds awful but loving something else will help yuo cope. all the best though and im sorry
leave me alone i'm not an angel
and i know i'm losing my mind for no real gain <if you want to get out alive, run for your life> |
