Exclamation Little Problem here, I don't know what to do? - February 20th 2010, 06:01 AM

Okay so in 2008 my cat, Pebbles died. I had her my whole life and I loved her so much. It was so hard to lose her. The first few months were hard, it was awful not having a cat and I was BEGGING mum for a new kitten. She said no, and a few other people said wait awhile, so I did and never got a kitten. After awhile I decided it was easier to not have one and I didn't really want one. I stopped asking mum and when the topic was brought up, I told her I didn't want another kitten. But her friends were saying how we should get one and everything and I just said "oh it would be nice, but I'm not desperate for one." And I was pleased when the subject was dropped because I really didn't want another animal.

Anyway, today mum's friend was coming and yea that was fine, she turned up with a Kitten for us, it was a present. It's really gorgeous and cuddly and everything, but I don't really want it. I couldn't say no at the time because that would just be wrong, the woman thought I was desperate for one! I love it and stuff, but I really don't think buying animals for presents is a good idea. I really don't want to say I don't want it, I have hinted a bit - for example mum said "Gosh this is ridiculous" I said "Give it back then I dont care" I think she thought I was kidding - Mum seems to like it, but I am not really bonding with it and it's going to be around for 15 years. I'll give it fuss and that, but I'm not sure i'm ready for another cat. I will probably get used to it but right now im just really not in the mood. Usually when I get a pet I tell everyone, but I haven't told ANY of my friends yet i'm just not that excited about her.

What should I do???? I may end up keeping it, but I don't know im so stuck. I cannot be bothered with the responsibility since I have my own health to worry about at the moment. I feel so stupid!!

I think that maybe you should give it a little more time. The cat might end up growing on you! I know that it was hard to lose your other cat, since you had her your whole life, and you probably think that you won't love a pet as much as you did her. However, you might eventually take a liking to this cat, and start to love her as well!

I agree. Maybe you just some more time to adjust. I know after my first bird died, then I got my 2nd one it took me a few weeks to get used to him. But now I love him. I just needed some time and maybe you do too.

Well I did end up telling mum I didn't care if we didn't keep it and we're giving it back. Its 15 years of worry and I was happy a day ago before the kitten i will be happy tomorrow without it.
We had already said no to this kitten but she still gave it to us. Also, I may end up going away for inpatient treatment and the place is 5 hours away, we wouldn't be able to take it :P
Thanks anyway for replying
