How do I make my new puppy less nervous?

I have a new puppy. She's a 6 weeks old shih-tzu We took her home today. She's quite nervous I think she misses her mum, old owners and brother and sisters. She was hiding behind my sofa for ages but I started hugging her and she fell asleep in my arms <3 She's now in her puppy bed sleeping.

How long will it take her to get used to us? What could I do to make this feel more like her home?

I'm not sure how long it'll be before she's completely comfortable around you. But she has just been taken away from her mother, and she's in a completely new surrounding and is probably very scared. All you can do it be very loving and caring, to make her feel more comfortable around you, and soon enough she'll be running around just fine.

I trick I've come across with puppies is, when they're going to bed, fill their basket up with comfy blankets. And pop a ticking clock wrapped up in one of them. It'll remind her of her mothers heartbeat, and should make her sleep easier.

when your playing with her or something, go down to her level, keep the noise down, and make silly baby talk noises, they like that, make sure you pay alot of attention, wait till the stage where she starts following you everywhere :L thats always fun x whats her name? x good luck

She has settled in loads I just have another two questions. She's teething She keeps nibbling my fingers. Obviously it doesn't hurt as her teeth are lame but they won't be like that forever. How do I get her to stop and nibble things like her blanket instead?

Also, she is proper wolfing her food down her O____O I've never seen a dog eat so quickly. I know she wasn't starved at her old owners (if anything she's overweight) I just wonder why she's eating like this.

For the teething, buy rubber puppy chew toys. And when she tries to bite your fingers, just distract her with the toy, and try and get her to chew that instead. After a while of this she'll just get used to chewing on the toys. You want to make sure that you do something like this soon, otherwise she'll get used to chewing anything and might start chewing everything.

I think she must just be enjoying her food! I 'dog-sat' a puppy recently, and she got SO excited when it was food time. She'd eat it all really fast as well, she must have just enjoyed it. I don't think there's anything wrong, so don't worry Even the 4 year old dog my boyfriend has still gets excited about food, and eats it all really fast. Maybe it's just a dog thing!

She's completely fine here now She's still nibbling everything in sight but when she does that I put her blanket or chew toy in her mouth. I think she may have nibbled my other dogs leg yesterday too and he growled at her :/
