Miss My Cat - August 19th 2010, 01:44 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of death or grieving, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

Just over a month ago, my cat that I have had for seven years got out of the house and no one has seen her since. I am quite certain she is dead, being as at the time she got out we had idiot neighboors that would let their pitbull run loose. I'm certain that their pitbull killed and ate my cat, but I can't give them a piece of my mind now because they have since moved. I suppose they found the remains of my cat, knowing their dog had ate her, and they didn't want animal control to be called on them. So they left before any of us could say anything.

But now I am extremely sad. I have but one thing to remind me of my dear kitty by, and that is her blanket that she used to sleep on. It's in my room and I keep close guard on it alot of the time, making sure my kitten doesn't get a hold of it and chew it up or rip it to shreds. However, I can't even look at the blanket now without getting tears in my eyes. The blanket has all of these little pictures of happy, smiling kitties on it, and everytime I look at those smiling kitty faces, I think of how much fun me and my cat had together and I feel my heart become hollow, empty. I feel as if there is a dark, menacing hole in my heart where my cat used to be. Now I miss her so much. I feel like crying, but I don't want to. I can't seem to get over this, no matter how hard I try. She was the first cat I ever owned and I had her since I was in kindergarten. I miss her terribly. Please God, bring her back.

April,
Grieving for a pet can definately be extremely hard. I understand your pain. You have to understand though, time will lessen the pain. Keep pictures of her, her toys, other things to remember her by also. Don't hold back your tears, let them out. I know you were probably really close to that cat, but you can get through this. Maybe see if you could go to an animal shelter and look for another cat? It won't be the same, but it may help take a little bit of the pain away. You'll have something else to focus on. There's nothing you did wrong, I'm sure your kitty is watching you from the clouds.
Stay strong,
Alessa

I'm really sorry for your loss. Losing a pet, especially one that's been arround so long, is always hard. If your neighbors dog actually ate your cat and they didn't tell you then that's just really mean. They should have owned up to it. I hope you feel better soon.

Sleep and death are both the same,
From both I can return.
I emerge from sleep by simply waking,
And from death, I return with words.

Alessa- Thank you so much. Unfortunatley, the blanket is the only thing I have to remind me of her and I had to fight my mom for it because she was close to the cat also. But in the end, I got the blanket and my mom got the blue bell that used to be on my cat's collar. I would love to have the blue bell too, but you know, my mom has to have something being as we lost my cat's toys a few years back and the blanket and bell are the only things left. I do have another cat now, his name is Chase and I adopted him from my grandpa's house when he was still very tiny. He looks just like my old cat used to, solid black fur, gold eyes, everything. He is still a kitten, but he has grown alot since I adopted him. I also have an old Calico cat named Chloe, but she's so old that I think she may very well die too pretty soon. I've had Chloe for about a year (I also adopted her from my grandpa but she was already very, very old) and I've had Chase for only a little bit over a month. I got him a short time after my other cat got out and disappeared. So both cats do help with the grief somewhat.

Joyce- I agree, losing a pet you've had for so long, especially for seven years, is very hard indeed. And I agree on the whole thing with the idiot neighboors and their pitbull too, but really, what can be done now? It's very mean indeed, but that is how people are in the town I live in. Nobody cares about others here where I live. Well, I wouldn't say that because I care and I live here. Plus, I know some other very considerate people who live here also. But still, the majority of the people are inconsiderate, incompassionate assholes who only give a damn about themselves.

That's good Definately use them as a distraction. Time will help you heal. Just know your cat had it's best times living with you.
