Any puppy trick ideas -
January 31st 2011, 09:00 PM
I have a border collie puppy who`s only 4 months and her name is Lacey. I`m now struck on what tricks to teach her since i want to start her with some training when she`s a puppy. If anyone has any ideas on some tricks that i could train her and how i could do so then feel free to reply to this thread or pm me

hm well as far as how to teach them I'm not of a whole lot of help.
My friend taught her dog a few cool ones as well as the basics. So sit, stay, lay down, shake a paw, bow....really there are tons of cool things you can teach them to do. |

My dog does a trick called "yoga" he sits up all straight and give you his paw, we also thought him a trick where he will jump multiple times in him two back legs.
Everyone is born right-handed. Only the greatest overcome it. |

Hi! Ohmygosh. I have a border collie/Australian shephard mix and her name is Callie! I love her so much. They are very smart dogs. We got her from a shelter when she was about 8 months old. She would nip at my heels when I run in my back yard. I guess she was trying to round me up lol. My dog will sit, sit up, clap (yes clap lol), turn around, shake with left and right paws, high five and wait for me to say its ok to get a treat I place beside her. They are really smart dogs and want to please. But they are also high energy dogs who need lots of exercise. Good luck with training your dog Lacey! I bet she is beautiful!

Why not first teach it basic things like sit, down, stay, heel, leave it and come?
Anyway, as for tricks, between my dogs they know crawl (crawl on the floor to you, very easy to teach), high-five (lies on back and hits his paw to your hand), roll over, leave it, up (onto hind legs, can be hard for certain dogs more than others especially if you want to sustain it briefly) and bow (standing on all four paws then leans front 2 out while putting head down then props back up). My other dog could count when you go to wipe his paws and say "paw 1" he gives you the left front, "paw 2" gives right front and so forth. Simple version of this is just the basic "give paw" command which both know. Both of them sort of know "find [name of person]" and "bed", where they sometimes go to bed. I tried teaching "bang, you're dead!" where the dog flops down then rolls on back but they weren't that great at doing it. Lastly, not sure if this would count as a trick or not, but they could spell. The way it worked is whenever myself or my parents said "walk" or "walkies", the dogs would get all excited even if we weren't referring to walking them. So we started saying it as "w-a-l-k" and sounding out each letter. The first dog was able to do this for a few commands actually, the second one I'm still trying to get him to know it but it's not going that well. I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.

paw is always a good one, our puppy (bruno) knows paw, high five, sit, he also knows how to play hide and seek. teaching them to go threw hoops could be fun!

Somehow, and I have no idea how.
But, I've taught my dog to crawl backwards on her belly. Its soooo funny ![]() But, start with the simple things like paw
I'm still alive.
Must have been a miracle It's been one hell of a ride Destination still unkown It's a fact of life: If you make one wrong move with a gun to your head You better walk the line or you'll be left for dead. I'm a runaway train on a broken track I'm the ticker on the bomb that you can't turn back Thats right. I got away with it all and I'm still alive. Let the end of the world come tumbling down. I'll be the last man standing on the ground As long as hot blood runs through my veins I'm still alive. |
