Exclamation Losing My Baby - May 26th 2011, 03:58 AM

Today May 25, 2011 I had to unfortunatley put my 15 year old golden retriever/lab mix down. He was having so many strokes and so many sezuires, (sorry about spelling) that my parents couldn't handle it. Now I only saw him have an attack once but I knew that he was still in pain by the way he couldn't walk, or really see. I would have to carry him down the stairs just so he would be able to go into the backyard. The thing is I feel so guilty about this, when we went to the vet, we placed him on the ground, he knew something was up, yet everyone was holding him down. I felt so bad becuase the look he gave me just made me cry even more because I didn't really want to lose him. He yelped out a couple times before the shot was totally in, I believe because we were holding him down. But in my mind I'm thinking, what if he didn't want this. But now its too late and I feel so bad and I miss my baby. I don't know how to take this I just need some advice on how to handle this. I know I'll miss him forever and no one can replace him, but I just feel as if maybe we could've had him longer, but than I know the seizures and strokes would be more often too because his last one was 5 days ago and he had one yesterday. I just need some guidance please. Thank you

You had a really beautiful dog, i must say.
I'm sorry for the loss, he seems to have meant a lot to you.
From what you said, you've done the right thing, hes not in pain now. And I'm sure if he was able to communicate with you, he'd thank you. Try not to feel bad, or put yourself down, i know its hard.. But you have to keep your head up and remember you did him a favour by putting him out of his pain.. Just try and distract yourself, do something that takes all your thoughts in on concentrating, so you don't think about him so much.
I hope i helped..

I also have a dog, so I know how hard it is, I can't imagine not having my dog with me anymore. You also have to remember though that it was for the best your dog was put down, now he is no longer suffering and can rest painlessly.
I know it's very hard losing a pet very close to you. I was close to my cat which sadly got run over. Just remember the good times you had together and keep your head up.

Take care. xxxx

Aww, I'm so sorry to hear that, I had to have a dog put down once

But I'm sure he had a happy life with you and you still have all the wonderful memories of your time together so he'll still be with you in your mind.

If you ever need someone to talk to then I'm here. Take care <3

Im sorry to hear you had to put him down. But it was for the best. you guys really did the right thing, he isnt suffering or in pain now. I know how hard it is to lose a loved pet, my cat i had since i was two ran away a year ago, i was heart broken. You just gotta give it some time, and remember all the good times. I got a heart shaped necklace that has a paw print that says "always in my heart" to memorialize him. Maybe you could do something like that? If not then just know its ok to cry, but try not to focus on the end, think back to the good times.

I'm so sorry about your dog! It's not that long since I lost my dog either.. Had him for almost 10 years, since I was 8, so I know how it feels.. Pets are there for you the times that nobody else are, and therefore it is really hard to lose them..
Just remember that it's better that they are put down, than to live with such pain every day.
Take care!
