My kitten =( - June 30th 2011, 01:21 AM

I have a 3 month old manx kitten and she has some nasty open sores on the back of her neck, does anyone what could be causing this? She has fleas and I think it could be because she's been scratching it; does anyone know how to cure this? I don't have any money to take her to the vet right now and I love her to death

Hey there,

It sounds like it could be the scratching to me. My cat often gets cuts when she has fleas too. I think you should get something to get rid of the fleas. There are various products you can get, and you can ask around for names of them. When the fleas are gone, the cuts should heal up and the scratching should stop or drop to a minimum.

Hope this helped,
Hollie.

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear about your kitten, Hollie is on the right lines though, try and find some flea products that you can use at home to solve the flea problem. Also, if she's scratching a lot it may help if file her claws so they're not as sharp and won't do as much damage when she scratches. Giving her plenty of toys to play with could also distract her from the itchiness. Another good idea would be to keep her away from other cats in the meantime to prevent fleas being spread.

I hope this helped, take care and I hope your kitten gets better soon

use a warm wash cloth with a little hydrogen peroxide to clean the wound. make sure her collar isn't rubbing anywhere so it doesn't get irritated. and take her to the vet as soon as possible if it gets worse.
hope your kitty gets better soon!

You can get collars for cats that have a flea repellent on them. And buy some flea treatment and get the fleas treated. The longer you leave your kitten with fleas the worse these sores will get. You can get flea treatment pretty cheaply in some pet stores. Might be worth going to a couple of pet stores and asking about which flea treatment they would recommend for you to use.

In addition to what everyone else has said, I would also say that if she uses a collar, you may want to replace it with something softer (like a bandanna) for now just so it isn't irritating the already damaged skin.

I think if you give her some toys to play with and/or cut her nails, as well as get the flea treatment, the kitten should be fine in a little while.

i totally replied to this...

Go to the store and get flea shampoo.. Bath her.
Clean her sores with peroxide, then apply triple antibiotic ointment... better known as neosporin. The Vet would give you the SAME stuff just a different name, called Bacterian... has the same the stuff, in the same doses.

Apparently my baby has an allergy to fleas :3, because after we put flea medicine on her, she stopped getting the sores. She is running around and playing like crazy again!
