Question Something is wrong with my puppy.. ): - July 7th 2011, 06:42 PM

About two months ago, we got a new puppy named Everett. He's been wonderful and healthy up until recently. He still has his appetite, but he's been itching way more than usual (we treat him once a month, so that's not the problem) and he's shedding excessively. Not only is it annoying to have to vacuum three times a day, but he's beginning to get bald spots all over. I've looked up some things online and they've said it could be infection, disease, or just simple allergies. However, it seems to me if it was infection or disease, he probably would have lost his appetite, as we've had experience with dogs with disease and infection. I don't see how it could be allergies as nothing has changed in his diet or his surroundings recently. It also could be dry skin, but we use dog shampoo for dry skin already.

We have an appointment to take him to the vet this Saturday, but the last time I took a dog to the vet for an illness/something unexplainable, he ended up being diagnosed with Liver Disease and died a couple weeks later, so I guess I'm just a little worried.

Any ideas on what else it could be or what we could do to help him?

Hey there!

Hm, sounds like one of two things that come to mind:
1) A Fungal infection
2) Allergic reaction

Try to bathe your dog in natural shampoos for sensitive skin. Check with the vet for sure though. It could be that or I could be totally wrong. Good luck though!

Don't you know you're lovely?

its summer at the moment in most places. so he might just be moulting excessively. probably best to take him to the vet and get him checked out.
