Psycho Dog :p - July 13th 2011, 11:44 PM

Alright so, my dog has had skin problems all of her life because of allergies.
She used to break out on her belly and near her privates in a red rash, and from time to time she still does. But we have allergy medicine for her and it's been much better since we got it. Lately, however, she'll roll on the carpet (on her back) and growl and bark... Like she's trying to get an itch, or something. I know it isn't fleas, but her back seems really itchy. I have no idea what it could be. Anyone have any ideas?

I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons.
And maybe we’ll never know most of them.
But even if we don’t have the power to choose where we come from,
we can still choose where we go from there.
We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them.

There are a number of insects it could be, even if you got flea medication. Could be a tick as well, though the stuff we give our dogs also treats for ticks. If the behavior keeps up for another week or so, I'd just take her to a vet, just to be safe. Sometimes it'll just pass though. Or perhaps you could take her to get a good bath and groom too, they can give her a flea bath which would also kill anything else that might be bothering her. (I work at a dog boarding/grooming place ) It might just be shedding though? I'm no expert, and it's hard knowing without seeing the dog or knowing it very well

Take me seriously.
I dare you.

Oh man, she's been doing it for well over a week. I don't even really know how long it's been. She gets baths every one-two weeks with oatmeal and brushed after each bath. We've taken her to the vet for other issues during the time she's started doing this, but we've never actually addressed the problem with the vet so maybe it would be a good idea to talk about that her next visit. I don't know. Maybe she's just goofy and playing.

She might be, dogs are indeed silly I don't think it's too urgent to rearrange your schedule over, but as it sounds you take your dog to the vet quite a bit and get bathes quite a bit as well, so I'd just bring it up next time you see them. They could do a quick examination on her back.
