My cat sleeps with.. - September 26th 2011, 08:23 PM

Max is about 13 weeks old and he was just sleeping next to me and I just happened to peek over at him and his eyes were half open and you could see the "third eye" (I think that's what it's called - the white covering.. ?) Anyways, I was just wondering if it's normal for them to sleep with their eyes open like that or if it's weird...

Well my cat does that sometimes when he is dozing, and no harm has come to him in four years, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Yes, it's normal. And terrifying :P. I always used to shake my cats awake if they were sleeping like that to check they were still alive.

My cats do that and it freaks me out. I think it's totally normal, though.

I assume it's normal since dogs and birds do that too from my experience

My cat was doing this today and her eye kept twitching because she was dreaming. It's normal I believe.

.

He also like... twitches in his sleep. I Googled it and many sources said that it could be dreams or seizures. Fingers crossed it's dreams, my poor baby can't have seizures.

Yeah it's totally normal! It's called a 'nictitating membrane', it helps animals moisten and protect their eyes. Though mammals really don't use it anymore, that's the way sea creatures can see underwater while protecting their eyes.

Hope this helps

Cheers
