Pet skunks? - October 28th 2011, 10:02 PM

Am I the only person in the world that really wants a pet skunk? They're super cute and act like a dog or cat, no need to keep them locked up or anything. You can take them for walks and everything. Plus, no, they do not smell, they remove those glands when they spay/neuter them. They're super sweet and adorable. Anyone have any experience with them? The only problem is legality of some states...

And no I would not "adopt" one from the wilderness. -.- Everyone keeps thinking that. ._. I'd get it from a breeder or rescue thing and get a licence first if needed, everything that needs to happen.

Take me seriously.
I dare you.

I do think they look pretty cute but I wouldn't want one as a pet myself.

I know Janos thinks they'd make an awesome pets though

My main concern would be carrying the skunk and all of a sudden I see a smoke screen so I'm left trying to wash my face. If that won't happen then I'd be fairly willing to get a pet skunk. The other concern would be how the skunk would get along with my dogs because they're no ankle-biter dogs.

They are cute, but I'd never get one. I remember a few years back I saw on tv a lady had quite a few pet skunks. It was pretty interesting

In the second grade a girl brought a skunk for pet day. He sprayed and the class stunk all semester. I hated skunks ever since then.

Well, the person should have seen that coming, if they're not socialised properly, they'll not like new people.

Also, the glands being removed is apparently risky and not really required if you get them from when they're young and tame them etc, I remember reading that somewhere.

I don't think I'd want a pet skunk, but my mother has told me a story about a girl who had one in her dorm room (obviously wasn't supposed to have it, but she did) and she would walk it across campus on a leash!

I volunteered at a zoo for a while and I fed the skunk once. It still had scent glands, but wouldn't spray because it was so tame. The woman who owns this zoo takes the animals to local events all the time and she loves to take the skunk because people are shocked at the fact that it doesn't spray. The skunk just hangs out, staring at the folks relaxing!
