I believe PetSmart is the only place that does not use puppy mills. I know of Petland, that was built and shut down within a few months because word got around the Petland is a huge supporter of puppy mills.

Yeah, Petsmart, contrary to belief, does not use puppy or kitten mills. The humane society comes and gives them animals to sell.

I got my puppy from a breeder, though I wouldn't have minded one from a shelter. I also considered PetSmart's puppies, but then fell in love with the breeder's puppy. It depends on the puppy, for me, rather than the place, although I wouldn't buy one from a puppy mill if I knew the puppy had come from a puppy mill.

hey guys!
DO YOUR RESEARCH. Just because a humane society get their puppies from puppy mills doesnt mean they are good. I worked for the largest humane societies in the country, it just opened its second location! BUT the day I left, they killed 9 puppies and one adult dog because they didnt want to spend the money treating them.... and this is a humane society that just had the money to open up a second location! I will never adopt from that humane society again. Petland DOES NOT support puppy mills. If you go up and talk to them, they will give you the papers and the the breeders contact information so you can contact them and ask them questions. I've been very active with pet land and they recently started working with local animal controls and rescue groups in the area. PetSmart puts a lot of their money in the wrong organizations, I will not support them. Their adoptions come from local rescue groups and animal shelters. Please do your research before adopting, get your dog and cats spayed and nurtured. Rescue a pet that is going to be put to sleep soon and don't get a puppy, get an older dog. I have rescued all my dogs and cats. They are great animals and I couldn't be happier with them. Mutts are actually smarter than pure breeds too because of the inbreeding issue. Like I said, do your research, don't trust on the word of other people. It will be worth it

I dispise puppy mills. My dog was origionally from a puppy mill. She's a rescue by the way. I'm assuming it was a puppy mill at least. The people who orignally rescued her said she lived in a teeny cage with her mom and her brothers and sisters and had barely enough room to move. So, m what I know about puppy mills that's what it seemed. I feel so bad for my dog. She still after 3 years (she's living with my family and not me so I can't be 100% if it's still accurate), she still has fears of people yelling cars, small places you name it. I feel bad for her. Puppy mills are no good.

First, what's wrong with local shelters? I've volunteered at a few, and they're the greatest places I've ever worked, both for me and the dogs. Just because it's local doesn't mean it's going to shit. A lot of times, local shelters are better than some sort of chain anyway, just like food. Secondly, this is a silly misconception that the humane society just kills animals because they're sick. While I hate that they do this, they have reasons behind it. Very, very, very few people are going to buy a sick animal. And they do not HAVE the money or resources to cure every animal that comes in their doors. Mots animals that shelters get are sick or injured in some way, the cost of curing them with the income they receive from actually getting those animals adopted is and will be in the negative every. single. time. Not to mention a lot of times these illnesses are contagious. Really think it's a good idea to let a contagious dog sit in a room with a bunch of other dogs? Right, because they have the space and money for isolation rooms. Trust me. The money it takes to open a second location for more space is much less than the money it takes to cure every single dog and cat that comes in their doors. I think you need to do your research too, and think about this stuff from more than just one empathetic point of view. Gotta think of the greater good, not just a cute face. ![]() Take me seriously. ![]() Petsmart only gets their animals from shelters-- which is where people should be adopting from. My girlfriend works there. Sure get an older dog, but some shelter will put any age dog down, if they are out of room, so don't just adopt the older ones, any age is best. ![]() Anddddd, all dogs are smart and have their own traits that make them good worthy dogs. I had a pure boston terrier who was the smartest dog I ever knew, I know of mutts that slack in some fields. Also, mutts are more prone to having different medical issues, for example my non pure bred, rescue dog, is allergic to everything, and gets shots once a week. ![]() So, saying all that, please don't tell me I don't know what I am talking about!

I'm not a dog person but I do make a point of only getting shelter cats. All of my cats have been from shelters thus far.

I get all my kitties from shelters or I get them from a person who had a cat who had kittens.
I'd do the same for dogs but I never had a dog.
