I feel like a fraud - July 11th 2012, 03:01 PM

I can admit that my cutting isn't to the serious extent of what others do. Heck, I don't even bleed. I feel like such a horrible person for the fact that I don't bleed, that I shouldn't be doing it but I have the urge to. Is that wrong? My emotions are so built up that I need pain to take my mind off of everything I hate in my life. I use sharp scissors and no matter how deep I try to make it, no blood. It makes me feel like a fraud and that...I'm not even sure. I just want to be able to stop all together. It's not excessive, it's just when I realise how horrible a person I am, how horrible my life is and when I eat to much. I do it to punish myself and to try and cut my emotions off.

I just want to stop and be happy.

You are not a horrible person. I'm glad you have asked for help on here. I am so sorry that you have to cut yourself to get rid of the pain. Cutting never gets rid of the pain; it only makes it worser. You shouldn't punish yourself like this. You are not a bad person because of this. I just want to remind you that you are not alone in this. We are here, in the same position as you are, asking and looking for help.

Hey there,

I'm sorry that you're struggling right now, but you are not a horrible person or a fraud, just because it isn't as serious as others, it should still be taken seriously. Don't feel bad for asking for help, and I'm really glad that you want to stop! It's the first step in recovery.

First, you should take a look at those alternatives. They really do help. I know I personally run because I get away from everything that's bothering me and anything I can use to hurt myself with, maybe it'll work for you too! Don't get discouraged if a few don't work though, because not all of them work for everyone so just keep trying!

Self harm is tough to get over, but you are really strong and you can do it, and you don't have to go through it alone, I really suggest you talk to someone you trust about it, like a family member, friend, teacher or a counselor. If you're nervous you could always write them a letter too. It's kind of scary but having a support system really is worth it. It makes things a lot easier.
