Think I may self harm - July 21st 2012, 10:12 PM

I recently have starting thinking I self harm. I have always but my finger nails too short and they will bleed. Then I will pick the skin around my finger nails and it will bleed also. Then whenever I get scabs I always pick them over and over again. I also recently had trichitilomania and that is when you pull your hair out. I pulled out my eyebrows and eyelashes and have recently gotten better but still pull occasionally. Would all of this be classifie as self harm?

It depends- are you doing this as a nervous habit/something to busy your fingers with, or are you doing this to feel pain? Any behavior you do to intentionally cause yourself pain can be classified as self harm.
Hope this helped Stay strong!

Hey there,

Like Sarah said, if you're doing it intentionally to cause yourself pain, then it is considered self harm, and if you're really worried about it, i'd talk to a doctor about it to get some answers!

I'd also recommend using alternatives rather than picking at your fingers or the scabs, here's a list that could help you out http://www.teenhelp.org/forums/f12-s...ves-self-harm/ Just try to find a few that might help, and if the first few don't work, just keep trying!

I hope this helped! if you ever need anyone to talk to, feel free to message me. Good luck and take care!
