Not drawing blood. - July 29th 2012, 07:18 PM

I'm going through some tough times and I tend to scratch at my arms with my nails or something sharp when I get overwhelmed.

Because blood makes me queasy, I don't scratch that deep. I feel like I need to be punished so I rejoice in scratching.

-If I don't bleed, does it really count as being bad?

Some Riot - Elbow

A friend of mine grows his very own brambles
They twist all around him 'til he can't move
Beautiful, quivering, chivalrous shambles
What is my friend trying to prove?

...I think when he's drinking he's drowning some riot
What is my friend trying to hide?

...And it's breaking my heart to pour like the rain
Brother of mine, don't run with those fuckers
When will my friend start singing again?
When will my friend start singing again?

Yes, it still does count as being bad. Don't cause yourself any pain,
Try to find something else to concentrate on when you get stressed out, and maybe find a hobby.
For me, I like to sit there and listen to music, and work on art. Try to get rid of the habit of hurting yourself when you are in situations like that, because you could get to the point where it isn't enough and you are gonna want more pain than just what you are already doing.

Good luck.

Hey there,

Like Kori said, anything that you do to cause harm to yourself is considered self harm, even if it isn't very extreme, it's still unhealthy and doesn't help you. You don't need to be punished, we're human and we all make mistakes, but none of us, not you or anyone, deserve to be in pain.

You should try some alternatives instead of self harm, like suggested above, just try to find a few hobbies that you really enjoy or do something you love to do! You can also use this list of alternatives: http://www.teenhelp.org/forums/f12-s...ves-self-harm/ Just go through the list and try out a few that you think might help, but don't get discouraged if not all of them help, because different things help different people, just keep trying!

I really hope this helped a bit, and that things get better for you. You can get through this! If you ever need anyone to talk to, feel free to message me! Take care!

It's still bad. Don't do it. The habit will only get worse if you keep on punishing yourself. You don't deserve this. If your going through a bad time and your upset about something then talk to me or other people who are here for you. Try and calm yourself down with relaxing music. You always got people who will help you. Punishing yourself wont make your problems go away. I've heard it may make you feel better but the problem will always be there until you solve the problem. It's like being addicted to alcohol you can't stop drinking it and it makes you feel better when you drink it but you know it gets worse if you don't stick with water.

As everyone else said even though you're not drawing blood it is still bad. You probably think because you're not doing too much damage that you can't get worse but it can and it will. I started with just scratching, believe me it's not good. Whenever you start to feel overwhelmed try to talk to someone or listen to music. Just try to get your mind off of it. But you really should talk to someone. Good luck.

As the above posters said, yes it is still bad. They pretty much summed up everything I was going to say, BUT i wanted to tell you that scratching is how my self harm started.

Stay Strong <3
