Question Stop It Starting Again - September 1st 2012, 03:40 PM

Recently I have had the need to self harm. I slipped up a couple of weeks back and now its worse then before. I don't know that to do about it an it's really getting hard to resist...

I'm starting to get back into the routine that when somthing goes wrong I have to hurt myself. I dont want to do that.

I know how difficult it is to stop. Its just seems like it have suddenly got hard again. Which sucks!!

I just want to know if there are things that i can do that helps keep my mind off of it?

One day your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure its worth watching.

Hello, Billie.

I'm sorry you feel the need to self-harm again. I know how hard it can be especially when things in life start getting harder again. Thing is, if you self-harm after awhile of resisting it, you should still be proud because of how long you went without it. You are strong and you do have the strength to get through this.
Try to resist it as much as you can. Talk to friends you trust if you can about how you're feeling and hopefully they'll talk to you and take your mind off things. Or your parents (I know it can be hard to tell them). They might could help you.

You can try to write your feelings down.
Play video games.
Watch movies/TV shows.
Music is also great. Easy to relate to.

Anything to take your mind off of it. Also, this thread of Alternatives to Self-Harm would be worth reading.

Listen, if you ever need anyone to talk to, or if you feel alone or in a sad mood. Self-Harm urges, anything. You can PM me anytime you need a shoulder to lean on and I'll try my best to help if I can. Don't feel like you're burdening me or anything. I'd be honored to help. I love helping people.

I wish you luck and happiness.

Hey, I don't really have anything to add, I just wanted to say that it's really awesome that you realize you don't want to fall into this again. That's such a huge step.
Have you ever told anyone in your life what you're going through? Sometimes when I'm feeling triggered, I'll talk to/text/call a friend to keep my mind occupied. You don't even have to tell them what you're really dealing with (although I think telling someone in your life is important), but just talking can take your mind off it.
Make sure you check out the alternatives list, and if you ever need to chat, feel free to PM me. You're not alone in this!
Take care of yourself,
Hannah
