Bio-Oil/Vitamin E Oil? - July 20th 2013, 06:02 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of self harm, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

(not sure where to put this, feel free to move it if it belongs somewhere else)

I have severe self-harm scars on the entire underside of both of my arms, the tops of both of my thighs, and on my hips and stomach, although those are not as bad. Some are almost a year old, and some are just a few months old. Some are really thick and some are really thin. Some are white and some are still pink, or close to turning white. I saw a friend on twitter talking about pure vitamin E oil and Bio-Oil. She also mentioned poking a hole in vitamin E capsules, squeezing the contents out and rubbing it into a scar.
Personally, I've tried a lot of different lotions; some of them were just the smell-good stuff and I didn't expect them to improve the appearance of my scars, and some had vitamin E in them, but those didn't do much either. I'm sure I've got a tube of Mederma laying around somewhere, but it's probably really old.
My question is, have any of you ever used Bio-Oil, vitamin E oil, vitamin E capsules, or anything of the sort? My local Walgreens has Bio-Oil, and Vitamin E capsules, but no pure vitamin E oil. I don't have the money to purchase the Bio-Oil yet, and I wanted to know if it's worked for any of you before I buy it. (Again, if this is not where the thread belongs, feel free to move it.)

I haven't even heard of either, although I probably have seen it in the stores and just didn't notice. I've used lotion with cocoa butter in it which has worked pretty effectively so that's another thing you could try if you haven't already.

Hey. I've used bio oil. It has worked but it takes time for any signs to show of them getting any lighter. I have a few month old scars on my arm and they can sometimes be very light or totally visible. I'm gonna go to my gp on Monday to see what they'll g give me. if they give me something, I'll tell you guys. x

I've heard and used Bio-Oil. It's good for reducing the visibility of stretch marks, scars etc but it will never make them go away. As Magda said, it does work but takes time in the reduction of scars. If you use it 2-3 times daily and after about 2-4 weeks depending on the visibility of the scar you should start to see a difference.

Scars do fade in time on their own providing you leave them be. A good nutritional diet with a lot of vitamin C will help and vitamin E is very good for the skin.

Like you, I have severe scaring on my arms and all down my legs. Have you spoken to your doctor? They may be able to prescribe you something. My doctor spoke to me about having skin gafts and having some of the cuts surgically cut open so they heal better and the scaring is better.

As to what you've spoken about, I never found bio oil that helpful but maybe I didn't use it long enough. So a few weeks ago I started using this: http://www.amazon.com/Palmers-Cocoa-.../dp/B001KYU1H2. It's got vitamin E in it and it's supposed to help with scaring and I got it fairly cheap so maybe you could try that?

Hope this helps!!

I've used Bio Oil on my more severe scars and it has worked miracles!!! The scars on my arms are barely noticeable!

the girl who always seemed unbreakble finally
the girl who seemed strong
the girl who always laughed
the girl who never stopped trying finally

she let her fake smile fade and as she did a tear rolled down her cheek and she whispered

' i can't do this anymore'

Bio-Oil was a great help to me, It takes a few months of use to see any results but its definitely worth using it
