Not again... - August 4th 2013, 03:33 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of self harm, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

I broke my SH promise for the second time in three days. What is happening to me?? I hadn't done it in 2 months and I guess I just gave into the temptation. I tried distracting myself but it didn't work for long. I feel so guilty now and I don't really care anymore.

Hey there!

I know how hard it can be to resist the temptation to SH. Been there done that and still at times have struggles with it. You can beat this, it is possible. Just keep at it, every step you take is progress even if they're small. If you haven't already, try looking at the alternatives sticky at the top of the SH forum, it has a lot of great ideas to help deal with this. Just remember there is light at the end of this tunnel, you can get there!

Hey!

You know that going two months SH free is great, right? You should reward yourself. As an example, every few weeks that I don't cut, I buy myself new songs for my iPod. This is something that's going to be really hard to do, but I think you should consider getting rid of what it is that you use to SH. I try to keep things out of sight so I'm less likely to use them. Like it was mentioned before, the alternatives thread is a good place to start! You can get through this, I know you can.

Hey there!

Sorry to hear you relapsed. I know how bad the guilt can get at times. I always get to like, two months then end up relapsing. But you know what? You went two months and that's a long time, and a lot of urges resisted. I agree with Cassie, you should reward yourself. You can also check out the Self-Harm alternatives list for when you get urges as well.

Since I usually relapse after a couple months, I'm trying something new, all thanks to Cassie. She has a group, you can check it out here. This way, it feels easier. I'm not looking at two months, then thinking "well, I'm gonna fail". I'm taking it like a week or two at a time, then setting a new goal for myself. The goal now is August 12. Then after that, I'll have a new goal for myself.

Remember, recovery's possible so just don't give up on yourself. Relapses happen, and you've made it so far. You can do this.
