Unhappy idk what to do - November 25th 2013, 01:32 AM

Ok so I really don't know what to do...
I'm desprate to get a sleeve tattoo but I don't want anyone to see my scars... Especially a family friend who was going to be doing it...
I know if he sees hell tell my dad and id get hit or kicked out of the house...
So I really don't know what to do like how can I make the scars less visable...
I know girls can use make up and all...
But what about a guy...
I mean this is only if I don't hit my main vein first...
iv been getting pretty deep but I start and don't want to stop....
This is just adding to my stress which makes me want to cut more ugh...
I just wondering if anyone had any ideas?

Hi there,

As far as reducing the appearance of your scars some, you can always use something like Bio-oil or Vitamin E. There are also moisturizers like cocoa butter. There are guys in my school who use baby lotion and such because they don't want their skin to get dry, so I'm sure you'd be okay with getting cocoa butter to use to reduce the appearance.

But, maybe you can speak to the family friend close before you do it and explain the situation. You can explain to your family friend that this is something you are trying your hardest, and hey, if you have a sleeve tattoo, you won't cut there either. You can ask your family friend to please keep this confidential because you'd prefer it if your father finds out from you, rather than him, and you do want to take care of it on your own right now.

Alternatively you can have someone who doesn't know your dad do it.

Of course, it also would be a good idea to try and find ways to stop self harming before it's time to get your tattoo. Have you ever seen this alternatives thread? Some of them even give you sensations other than pain, so those may help you a lot. It can also help to find other ways to get out your emotions, like writing, art, or music.

Have you ever considered talking to someone about this, too? For example, you can talk to a different family member, friend, doctor, school guidance counselor, school nurse, teacher, club adviser or coach, or religious leader. You don't deserve to go through this alone, and there are people willing to help. This is a link to a list of hotlines you can call as well, if needed. They'll be able to work you through the bad times. They're organized by country and cover a wide variety of topics.

Do you know what it is that is causing you to want to harm yourself in the first place? If you're not sure what it is, maybe you can start keeping a journal, which is also an excellent way to vent. In it, take special note of the times you want to self harm by writing down the date and time, where you were, what was going on, and how you felt. You can even write down whether or not you ended up self harming or not. Then, when you're calmer you can look back and notice patterns or events that could be causing it, and then solve those problems.

I'll also link you to this first aid information, so you know how to take care of any wounds.

You really deserve to get the tattoo though! I bet it'll look amazing.
