Love Yourself. - December 25th 2013, 04:52 AM

I'm over nine weeks self harm free. I never thought that I could make it this far. It gets hard, but I've been able to stay strong so far. I'm proud of myself I guess, but I've noticed something. I still haven't gotten rid of the self hatred. I still hate myself and everything about me. I know that liking yourself takes time, but I'm really not sure how to go about doing this. I feel as if I will never like myself ever. It feels impossible to me.

My question for you is- how do you start to love yourself?

I think that maybe you should start focusing on accomplishments and even the small things you like about yourself, as reminders that you have amazing qualities and can go really far in life. You can also ask friends and family for things that they like about you as even more reminders. They wouldn't lie to you about those good things.

You should also start to write down encouraging quotes and pictures as a reminder that you can do this. There are some nice pictures that can serve as really great reminders of your good qualities, and how you definitely should love yourself.

Do at least one or two nice things for yourself per day. They can even be small things like painting your nails your favorite color or just relaxing. But, these nice things will start to build up!

You're doing so well.

Congrats on being so long without SH free, Jenna! That's a huge accomplishment.

I think it's a variety of things; and maybe it depends on the person individually. But I believe it has to do with acceptance of yourself and things that have happened before. Kind of like a coming to terms sort of thing. Events in the past may have happened, but you can lead a wonderful life down the road! You're definitely capable of it, I know you are. If you can take one thing while looking in the mirror and tell yourself that you like a certain part of yourself - that's a start. And acknowledging the good, taking pride, and turning negative thoughts around.

Sorry, that came out as a jumble of words!

And you should be proud, that's nothing short of amazing. You know where I am if you need anything.

Thanks Dez. I already keep tons of quotes around. But, I'll definitely try everything you said. Thanks for the ideas .

Thank you Cassie. I will definitely keep that in mind. I really appreciate it.

I'm lucky enough to have some incredible people in my life that have always worked really hard to keep some uplifting and positive thoughts about myself at the front of my mind. One thing that works for me is thinking about the things that they have said when I'm feeling really low about myself. Try thinking about the compliments you've received that have meant the most to you and focus on those when you're starting to feel bad about yourself. It's a really nice reminder that, no matter what you're feeling, people care about you and see amazing qualities in you.

wanderlust consumed her;
foreign hearts & exotic minds compelled her.
she had a gypsy soul
and a vibrant heart for the unknown.
