Disapper please! - January 30th 2014, 02:27 AM

I have recently "recovered" from self harm and im super happy about it! One problem is, i have these scars on my thighs and every time i look at them i remember all the heart break and sadness. Im just wondering if anyone has any remedies to make them fade enough to wear shorts or a bikini?

Hey there,

First of all, congratulations on recovering from self harm! That is a really amazing accomplishment and you should be so proud of yourself for doing that.

The scars will start fading naturally over time, but two things that can help speed along the process would be either cocoa butter or bio-oil. Remember that these processes don't work instantly, but use the products regularly and they may help to fade some of the scars.

Another option you have is seeing a dermatologist to see if they have any suggestions of what can be done to help fade the scars.

But, even if they don't fade right away, you have every right to wear shorts or a bikini. It's nobody else's business where the scars are from so if anyone asks you don't have to say anything.

I use cocoa butter. It is amazing I think you get scar stuff at local stores (Walmart, target) and there is nothing wrong wearing shorts or bikinis with scars who cares what they think!? the time can vary.. Some of mine fade in a couple of days and some of mine take months or years to fade.. So it kinda depends on it and congrats on you self harm free!!! feel free to PM/VM me

I am so glad that you are self harm free! YAY

I agree, bio-oil does help some, Make up can work to an extent too.

Hey,

As Dez said, congratulations on being clean from self-harm, that's a massive achievement!

You've received some great advice on how to lesser the appearance of scars, however, as has been said; you aren't required to tell people what the scars are from, and if needs be you could just say you're not sure.

I have found that bio-oil works well on scars they are very noticeable, however not so effective on scars that are beginning to naturally fade.

I hope you're doing well, and you found what you're looking for,

Take care,
~Jack.

Congratulations on being Self-Harm free. That's a great achievement and you should be really proud of yourself! As for the scars, you can use bio-oil, and I've also heard that rubbing lemon juice over scars daily can help them eventually fade.
