Exclamation telling - February 27th 2014, 04:42 PM

I want to tell my dad, but im scared. I was emotionally abused for 8 years by my step mom and no im scared to confined anything in anybody. How would I even tell him? What if he freaks out and wont love me anymore, I mean im getting over it, I haven't cut for 6 weeks, but he might not like me anymore b/c I did it in the first place!

Im scared and want to tell, but im almost more scared to tell than anything.

Sometimes it's best to just let it out. If you trust him, tell him. No matter what I guarantee he will still love you. Telling my mom was extremely hard for me to do but it's easier once you start talking about it with them. If you need help, advice, or just want to talk feel free to PM or VM me

Hey there!

Telling someone that you self-harm can be hard sometimes, but it is definitely well worth it in the end! There are several ways that you can tell someone. You can tell him to his face by saying something like, "Dad, there's something I need to tell you that you're not going to like. But I have been struggling with self-harm." You could also write out a note or send an email to prepare your thoughts and to make sure that everything you want to say is explained. It might be a good idea to print out some information about self-harm so your dad can learn a little bit about it!

Lastly, there isn't really a right time to tell him because this might upset him. However, try to tell him at a time when he's in a good mood. Your dad is going to love you no matter what. He may seem mad at first, but he will need time to let this sink in and figure things out. He won't be upset with you. Rather, he'll be upset with the situation that you're in. Remember, you're his child and he'll want to help you when he can.

Talk to someone, if you don't feel comfortable with doing that, whether it be in person or online, then try to keep yourself busy with music, video-games, whatever you enjoy doing A great way to keep from freaking out is not to be alone. Talk to someone, even if it's just stalling it, it helps a lot.
