Need to feel the blade or break a bone - March 24th 2015, 11:47 PM

I need to feel a lot of pain I need to take the blade across my skin a lot or break a bone. Like I picked scabs and made them bleed but that wasn't enough. I need to feel more pain. I have a bruise on my arm from being bit by one of my dogs I press on it for the pain but I need more. I want to cut or break my arm so bad. I just don't know what to do. Alternatives don't work.

Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay
Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are

That's the main problem with Self Harm, it can become addictive, and when the methods of self-harm become inadequate, you start looking for more serious methods. I recommend, even if you don't feel that the alternatives you have been given, keep implementing them. The brain is capable of awesome things and even if you think none of it is sinking in, every single time you implement one of those alternatives, you are doing yourself a world of good.

I was talking to my friend about self-harm yesterday and he said "you're never going to find a physical pain that's going to completely alleviate your emotional pain". What that means is you need to shift your focus from trying to use self harm to alleviate your emotional pain, unless you have a different motive for your self harm, to tackling the issues causing that emotional distress.

I mean no one self harms, for no reason. What's the drama, is it academic dramas, is it family problems, are you being bullied at the moment? You need to be able to pinpoint precisely what is causing the emotional distress that leads to self harm, and work on that.

One of the best ways of doing that is contacting a counsellor for assistance. Getting someone to talk to about your problems is the main gig, but also, getting coping strategies from your counsellor is absolutely huge as well. They'll give you a guideline as to precisely what you need to do to, either alleviate the problems associated with your self-harm, or alleviate your emotional response, so self-harm plays less of a role in your dealing with certain issues.

The thing is, if you're constantly looking for more serious ways of self-harming, then self-harm is obviously not helping. Even if you feel alternatives or counselling or whatever the case may be, isn't working, you have nothing to lose by trying again. It's just going to go downhill if you're looking for "more pain", because you're unlikely to ever find any level of pain to help.

Can anyone help me and not just spurt out facts?

Hey Frankie.

I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling. It's challenging to fight the urges but it is possible. Do you know what triggered you? I wanted to mention that writing down your feelings can be really beneficial. Have you tried blogging? It is a great way to keep track of your feelings and figure out what triggers you.

I know you said alternatives don't work but is it because the list is too long to look at? There is some ideas that will give you a physical sensation which sometimes can help. I will quote them down below for you.

Quote:
Alternatives that will give you a sensation (other than pain) without harming yourself:

Hold ice in your hands, against your arm, or in your mouth
Run your hands under freezing cold water
Snap a rubber band or hair band against your wrist
Clap your hands until it stings
Wax your legs
Drink freezing cold water
Splash your face with cold water
Put PVA/Elmer's glue on your hands then peel it off
Massage where you want to hurt yourself
Take a hot shower/bath
Jump up and down to get some sensation in your feet
Write or paint on yourself
Arm wrestle with a member of your family
Take a cold bath
Bite into a hot pepper or chew a piece of ginger root
Rub liniment under your nose
Put tiger balm on the places you want to cut. (Tiger balm is a muscle relaxant cream that induces a tingly sensation. You can find it in most health food stores and vitamin stores.)
Feel free to send me a message if you need to talk. I'm here for you. Stay strong, Frankie. You can do this. <3

I have a skin picking problem too and I'm having a hard time stopping but something that is helping right now is coloring on a piece of paper. Maybe thats something you can try? Hope things get better Frankie <3
