Don't know what to do - May 4th 2015, 07:00 PM

I'm out at a restaurant with my family for my grandads birthday. I really needs cut but I can't and I don't have my elastic band on my wrist like I normally do. I feel like I'm about to freak out. Please can someone help me?

Try to take deep breaths and focus on something, like the taste of the food you're eating or music playing in the restaurant. You can just flick your wrists with your fingernails, or go to the bathroom and wash your hands in cold water. You could take an ice cube out of your drink while no one's looking and hold it against your wrist to give you some sensation. If your hair's up, you could take it down and snap the hair tie on your wrist.

This probably won't help you now, but for future reference there's a list of self harm alternatives that you can look at. Try a few from different categories and see what works and what doesn't.

Hope that helped. Shoot me a message if you ever need anything or want to chat.
