Lightbulb The rubber band one - May 12th 2015, 09:52 PM

Ok I just wanted to say that I'm not a big fan off the whole getting a rubber band and snapping it when you want to cut. The reason why I say this is because my sister used to do this but as a means off self harm and sometimes you cant tell anymore what you are using it for. I mean, when you first start, you just use it hit yourself with until you don't want to cut. But as you keep doing it, you gradually just start using it to get the same sensation as cutting which makes you feel better but may not actually be any better than cutting in the first place. You may end up cutting yourself with the rubber band anyway or you could a bruise there from doing it. Note I am not telling you that you may as well cut, I am saying that a rubber band may not be any better so not to do either of them. But this is just my opinion. It could be wrong I don't know.

Honestly? I don't like it because it still inflicts a pain upon yourself, which you're doing on purpose and to me thats self harm.

You're not wrong, no one's opinion is wrong.

I personally don't use this as an alternative, and I rarely recommend it to people. I'll only recommend it if I let them know that this alternative isn't for everyone. Whether someone will use it to self-harm or not depends on their circumstances.

I agree with you on this; I mean, like you said, it's not as bad as cutting one's self, but they're doing it for the same reason. I guess it's all about finding a distraction and that's what some people have found and I guess it works for them? Drown your brain with thoughts of other things. I'm still fighting the feeling, but I'm dealing with it my own way. Anyways, yea, I think it's the same in terms of the reasons for doing it, but it is much better than cutting, for sure.
