how do you know when to throw the blade away - June 8th 2015, 03:56 PM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of self harm, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

I have brand new ones I've only used mine three times so far. Twice today. I just want to know when do you get a new blade? when is it time to throw it away?

Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay
Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are

Hey Frankie,
This might not be what you're looking for but my honest answer would be to throw away the blade now and don't get a new one. I know that's hard, and you may want the blade. But that's the real and honest answer. You're just so much more worth than blades.

That being said, I struggle with SH urges too so I'm not saying it is easy and I'm no where near recovery myself. But if you're asking questions about actively using the blade, it means you are struggling immensely and I hope that you evaluate what you can do differently so that you're not at the mercy of the blade's control.

You've been on this site long enough to know there's a self harm alternative list and all the basics. so I won't bore you with that. But I do remember you've written some great poems before that were really relatable and hopefully helped with the urges. Perhaps you can try that again?

I'm here if you want to talk

I think it depends on how often you use them, and whether or not you clean them. I am not encouraging self-harm, but definitely try to keep your tools clean. You can wipe them down with alcohol swabs and then dry them off just to keep them clean. I've thrown mine away within a week or two weeks maximum. If you notice it starts to change color or rust, then safely dispose of it.

In reality you shouldn't use the same one many times. Not that I have ever stuck to that rule but that's the truth which is to prevent infection. Like said above, if it gets rusty, definitely don't use it.

I know its hard but if you want to talk to us know that we're here for you. We won't judge you and we'll try our best to help you and support you through what ever it is you're going through. Stay strong and take good care of yourself.
