Got a psychologist - September 21st 2015, 01:01 PM

This is most definitely in the wrong spot so feel free to move it. This was just the thread that I was reading before I decided to post oops. Sorry guys..

Ok so I know it was ages ago but some of you said to tell you how it went with the pysch when I get one and go to see them. Ok so about 2 weeks or something I went and saw one for the first time this year and surprisingly it went pretty well. I wrote a letter for her but I forgot to bring it so on Thursday is my next appointment so I can give it to her then. It was so stressful having to remember everything that I forgot the letter oh well. Thursday is fine. So she made me sign a form that basically says I can back out any time and if I mention anything that can bring harm to myself or others she has to mention it to a 'third party'. I am assuming that third party will include my parents so I think I am going to keep the self harming bit to myself for now. Until I trust myself to not expect my parents to freak or her to get worried or anything. I think maybe working on the things that contribute to the self harm might make it go away on its own anyway so I might not even have to mention it. But surprisingly I have actually told her some stuff and opened up a lot more than I expected myself to so good job to me. I am actually looking forward to the next appointment though. Don't usually look forward to seeing people. Oh well.

In other news.... I GO TO CAMP NEXT WEEKKKKKKK. I am actually so excited that I'm going though. It is actually pretty fun. Butttt we have to sleep in tents with a tent buddy and my tent buddy is now sleeping in a cabin and I can't sleep in a cabin and I don't know if I have to have a tent buddy cause if not great! If I do, well I'm stuffed. I have no one that I would want to spend almost a week in a tent with or anyone that would want to spend it with me. So I'm asking if I can be in a tent by myself. Also my suitcase won't fit if there is another person and I can't fit my stuff into a smaller bag. Oh well I'll figure something out. WOw I went on a bit of a rant on this didn't I.

Ok that's the end of my update anyway. Its been so long since I posted last omg.

I'm glad your appointment went well! I do have a little advice, though. Ask your psychologist more about what she meant in regards to telling a third party about certain things. By harm, she might have meant suicide related things and not self-harm. Maybe you can ask her to clarify. If it turns out that she will tell your parents about self-harm, you might be able to talk about it in the past tense. That's something a lot of clients will do with mental health professionals because they don't always have to inform the parents if self-harm is talked about in the past tense.

I hope you enjoy camp!

That's really great to hear that your first appointment went well. I'm so happy you reached out. Thank you for letting us know how things went, Hilary. I had been wondering if you'd ever went to see a psychologist and how it went if so.

I agree with Calico about asking your psychologist what she meant about telling a third party. She may be referring to if you felt suicidal then she'd have to notify your parents. Having some clarification about what she means may help you feel more comfortable in sharing certain things.

Going to camp sounds exciting and fun. Hope you have a great time at camp!

Thanks guys I was going to ask her what she meant anyway, just in case. Even if it was selfharm I can speak about it in past tense because it has been a while since the last time anyway.
