Im getting obsessed - April 18th 2017, 04:29 PM

OK so it all started with a piece of glass that broke on my carpet floor because in my hallway the light piece broke while my dad was trying to fix the lightbulb then it broke and then while my parents were distracted i stole a shard of glass. So one day i decided to cut just to know what it feels like i was curious but now i cant stop i have been cutting everyday and i cut once to the point of blood because i struck to fast on my thigh.. i cut most when im sad or angry it keeps me calm.. i want to stop cause im getting obsessed with it..

Something you can think about in regards to stopping is what makes you feel like cutting. You said it helps keep you calm; do you know what makes you sad and angry? Perhaps you can document those things so you can figure out how to work on them. Working on what triggers you can help decrease self-harm urges overall.

Another thing to think about is what you want to get out of self-harm. For instance, maybe you like the rush (the endorphin release) or you like the color of the blood. You can find alternatives and tailor them to what you're looking for in self-harm. If you like the endorphin release, you can try exercising; if you like the blood, you can draw positive things on yourself in red pen.

Here is a list of alternatives to take a look at. This list is large, so there will probably be a few alternatives in it that work for you. Do know that finding alternatives that work can be hard sometimes, so be patient with yourself.

Is there anyone you trust so you can talk about your self-harm? You could talk to your parents, a teacher, a friend, a distant family member, or a counselor. Regardless of whether or not you are comfortable enough to reach out to someone, I recommend blogging or journaling to release your feelings.

you cannot withstand the storm
she whispered back
i am the storm.
