Can't Hold On... - November 2nd 2017, 11:52 PM

My self-harm urges have gotten so intense that I don't think I can manage now. I literally e-mailed my counselor today stating that I can't wait a week and a half until our next session (pathetic I know). I'm really hoping he can help. I promised myself to wait until I hear back from before I cut... if I can get it in, I should be okay, but if not I don't know what I'm going to do.

Hi Cass,

I am so sorry that you are having a hard time right now. You did a great job emailing you're counselor and letting him know that you can't wait over a week and you need help.
With the feeling that you are having to self harm, try to go for a walk and you can have music if you want to. Also you can put on a funny movie or TV show to help you and take you're mind off of this, it will also make you laugh some too. You can also get a rubber band or a hair time and put it around you're wrist and every time you get the feeling to self harm you can snap it and you can grab a hot or a cold drink and hold it in you're hand for a while or grab ice to get you're mind off of this feeling.
Also when you have this feeling, look around you're house or the roon that you are in and find five things, TV, window, the door, rug and a chair, ect and think about these different things. And think about what colors are they and how did they make you feel when you are using them. And take some deep breaths too also help you calm down. You want to get you're mind off of the self harming and try and focus on something else if you can. Also if you like to draw or writing can also help distract you as well.

Hey Cass,

I'm so sorry to hear that you're currently struggling. I want to mention that you're not pathetic for reaching out to your counsellor to get in sooner. That's actually a huge step!

I agree with what Emma mentioned above about going for walks. I find that that helps me when I have urges. Another thing I find helps is watching Ellen DeGeneres!! I know that not everyone will find her as funny as I do, but if you like her it should help!

I guess I feel pathetic because I legit saw him two days ago. I don't know how I go from okay to literally barely hanging on in two days. I just don't know what he'll say and that fear scares me.

Also thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to try them out. Hopefully something can get me through this part of my life.

Needing to see your counselor after seeing him two days ago isn’t pathetic at all. It just means that you’re going through a difficult time and could use his support. The fact that you recognized this and emailed him is good and hopefully he’ll be able to fit you in soon. Perhaps he’ll have a cancellation slot you can have.

It is good that you’re going to try some of the suggestions that were listed above. Hopefully some of them work for you.
