It's getting worse - January 2nd 2018, 04:50 PM

So I would like to start off by saying this has NOTHING to do with my cutting. I have been cut free for 245 days and have 120 day left until I am a year free.

But I have been biting myself, and scratching my skin for the pain but I DO NOT do it to break the skin. I used to only still bite myself but lately I have started to scratch myself or dig my nails into my skin. I don't really do it for the same reason as when I cut. I do it because I am frustrated and just need to focus on something else for a couple of minutes. It seems like the scratching and nail digging is getting worse. I have also taken up hitting my self in the legs a couple of time to calm down. I never used to do this either. I've thought about putting rubber bands back on my wrist to snap it a couple of times instead of biting myself.

The other thing is I have been getting bumps and pimples on my face and when I notice them I start scratching them and it seems like I CANNOT stop until I am bleeding. I know that I DO NOT do this for self-harm reasons I do it because it is a compulsion. I just wan to know if there is a way to stop the compulsion before it over takes me mind.

I would really like some ideas. The alternative thread probably won't work because I usually do the biting and scratching without noticing until I feel the pain.

We may shine, we may shatter,
We may be picking up the pieces here on after,
We are fragile, we are human,
We are shaped by the light we let through us,
We break fast, cause we are glass.
Cause we are glass.

Are you normally alone when this happens or with others? The reason I ask is because I pick my skin in either situation, but it may help get you to start realizing if you ask the people around you to politely point it out when you are doing it?

You said for the scratching/picking you generally don't notice you're doing it, but do the bumps and pimples generally itch at all? If so, maybe you can see a doctor or dermatologist for some acne medication to start clearing some of the pimples up so you don't have as much to pick.

You said you don't notice when you're doing it but do you think keeping something in your pocket you can hold onto or play with when you start to get stressed would help? Maybe if you start doing it on a conscious level, you will unconsciously start going to that instead as a habit, if that makes sense?
