Happy Boxes - March 10th 2018, 06:10 AM

Happy boxes (or distraction boxes) have been something I've been looking into of late. I've been wanting to self-harm again, so I decided to do a bit of research on coping methods and discovered this.

It's really simple- you take a box (anything will do, preferably something with a lid), and you fill it with anything that makes you happy. Pictures, toys, art supplies, candy, movies, whatever you want. Anytime you feel upset or get urges, get the box and mindfully take everything out. Focus on what's in the box, as a way to distract yourself for a bit.

I wasn't sure if this was in the alternatives list or anything, so I figured I'd bop it on here and see if it'd be able to help anyone out.

This is an awesome idea, thanks for sharing it with us! Have you started making your box yet? What are you going to put in it?

That's a great suggestion! I've thought of doing that, maybe I'll need to.

I sorta started making one last night (I'm gonna add a bit more to it today). For now, I just have a couple of key-chains in there, along with some letters, a stress ball and a pencil or two. My friend suggested printing out pictures of his dog and putting them in :P (he's so fluffyyy! )

That sounds like a brilliant idea. I think I will define make a happy box for myself. A suggestion which I've got is that, if you have gone to watch a movie in the cinema recently which you really liked and you still have the ticket you could put that in to your happy box .
