Exclamation Advice? Help? - January 19th 2009, 11:00 PM

This is so stupid, but I quit today[not the stupid part] and now I'm tring to sleep.

I always cut before bed, and enless I'm really upset, it's the only time I cut. And now I'm trying to sleep, and I can't. My razor is in it's spot, not one foot from me.

How do I sleep? I had trouble sleeping before, SH helped. Now I don't have that! What do I do!

Hey Lilly, I'm sorry you're having trouble sleeping right now.

When I first quit. I too had trouble sleeping. I made three simple rules for myself and I suppose they helped since it's been 2 years. You're rules could be different than mine but just so you know what I mean by rules heres mine: 1) Nothing that I could possible use could be in my room 2) write before bed about anything and everything 3) think about something positive while falling asleep [anything as long as it doesnt involve hurting yourself].

If that doesn't help you, try a sleeping aid for the first few nights..it could help just be sure not to use them longer than what the box suggests. You don't want to have to fight another addiction on top of one already.

I hope this helps. Pm me if you need too.

Thats very good advice, what you could also try is distraction techniques, for every negative think a positive, try having a warm bath to relax yourself before you go to bed, & if you cant sleep watch a comdey film, something that maks you laugh.

You can get through this. You are strong.

Lily, for tomorrow night can you move the razor somewhere else? Outta sight, outta mind. Might not work, but at least you can't get to it. Throwing it away would be even better if you have the courage for that.

I used to cut every night before I went to sleep. One of the things that helps is the fact that I read or do something before bed to calm me down and help me ease into sleep. Keeping my mind busy helps keep it off of cutting.

I really don't think I can do that, just thinking about it freaks me out. It is hidden though, I can't see it I just know it's there.

I did end up taking a sleep aid, but they give me nightmares.

I can understand that. I've been in recovery for years now and I still haven't thrown mine out yet.

I think you should try to make your bed a safe zone now. A safe zone is somewhere that you can't allow yourself to cut. For instance, I can't cut in bed. In order to cut, I have to get out of bed and go do it somewhere else. I just keep myself rooted in my bed and ride out the urge. Doesn't always work, but it helps if someone is talking to me and convincing me to stay there as I go along as well. Having people who support you through this is probably the best thing in the world for you or anyone.
