Accidently cut myself, felt great.. - August 14th 2009, 12:25 AM

At camp my knife blade slipped, and I cut myself, but it felt.. great somehow. I'm craving to cut myself, and I'm trying to prevent myself from cutting, but it's hard. Any tips on how to prevent myself from doing it?

think of how your life was fine before the blade slipped. you wouldn't want to start cutting, and have your life get worse. because cutting comes along with feelings and back fires. i know how good it can feel to cut. the blood, the control, the pain, the numbness, i love the feeling. but i was strong enough to stop cutting, and if i am strong enough to stop, i think that you are strong enough to hold yourself back. cutting doesn't do anything good for your life. the feeling fades. and for me, the guilt was practically suffocating me.
i want you to stay strong!
i know you can! good luck!

Hey,

It really isn't worth getting into to. Once you starting self harming it becomes really addictive and so difficult to stop. Just think about all the scars you will be left with and might have to explain at a later time if you do start. Also all the isolation it will leave you feeling and guilt. I don't think it is worth all of that. Self harm just makes everything worse and kind of masks the real problem so it is just left undealt with. There are much better ways to deal with your feelings, which are less harmful.

You are strong and don't have to turn to self harm to deal with your feelings. Is there anyone you can talk to about this? Just remember you are never alone and someone will always listen here Perhaps write a list of all the reasons why you shouldn't self harm and if you do get the urge to do it remind yourself of these.

You can get through this so don't give up

Just think about how inconvenite(spelling) it will be for you if you start cutting again(Im assuming you've self-harmed before) you'll have to cover up the new cuts and have to lie to people on how they got there...It's just not worth going back to..You can do the alternatives on the alternitive page they have but I don't have the link sorry...

Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay
Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are

Hey,

I know how 'good' it can feel to cut but in the end that feeling really only last for a small amount of time and then it fades and you are left with this empty feeling. Once that empty feeling comes the only way you know how to get rid of it is by self-harming again and then the process repeats itself and it really is not worth it.

Are things going badly for you right now that are making the release of cutting so much better? If so do you think you could find someone to talk to? A friend, a family member, a teacher or another trusted adult? Talking can be a pretty good way to get rid of the urge. Do you think you could give it a try?

Another thing that is great in helping with the urges is the alternatives (http://forums.teenhelp.org/f12-self-harm/t9418-alternatives-self-harm/) They give your mind something else to focus on and some of the things on the list can actually be pretty fun to do .

I hope this helped and if you ever need someone to talk to feel free to pm me.

Yesterday, a "friend" of mine dug her nails into my arm and it left an impression, and i went over to her who was talking to some guys that I don't like at all, and one of the guys was like, OMG SHE'S EMO!! -pointpoint- Then another guy was like, are you? o: YOU ARE. Even your hair's emo! I was like, ...i'm not emo. ._. Then her nephew thinks I'm goth, and I'M NOT GOTH. OR EMO. That's just a degenerate label that people put on others who are different.
._.
People are really getting on my nerves.

Hey there,

grrr, I'm sorry that you had to deal with people who just stick labels on people based on their own unguided impressions. It's definitely understandable that they would get on your nerves.

But remember that you get to let your frustration with them out in healthy ways, and to keep proving them wrong by taking care of yourself and not cutting. Let it be your own private way of laughing in their faces, maybe

Hang in there.

Drown in the music,
dance in the rain,
block out the thunder,
and let the scars fade.

Cutting is no joke. It is crazy addicting. I was a cutter for 4 years and it took almost a year to stop. So while you are in the beginning stages of it, get yourself out of it. You may think you cant stop yourself now but it could lead to more and more. Just one slip and it could be the end of your life.

Take a breathe, count to ten, walk away...works for me.

Hey there,
Yes labels are always annoying and stupid especially when there is no such thing of them in the first place. So for alternatives that work for me: Drawing on myself in red pen, going for a walk to cool down, or coming to the forums on here and reading over the alternatives list. Good luck and PM me if you need me.
Take care,
Alessa
