That time again - August 18th 2009, 07:40 AM

I've been clean for most of the summertime with a few minor slip ups, but summer is almost over. During school is when I would have my worst s.h. episodes. I'm just starting to worry that all the things about school that triggered me before will set me off again. Even thinking about it makes me panicky. Help

Hey Kali,

School can be tough, with all the stress and drama, especially high school. Just, try not to stress so much about it. Calm down, and go into it with positive thinking. Don't focus on what could go wrong, or set you off, just try to make it a good year. Try to be positive.

I know it can be very hard to keep from self harming sometimes, especially if you are stressed. But you could try some relaxation techniques, or even some alternatives to self harm.

Have you tried the Alternatives Thread? A lot of the ideas listed there are great for just relieving stress in general. Alternatives can be anything really, as long as it is safe and legal. So try some, find some that work for you.

Could you talk to your school counselor about what triggers you at school? They might be able to help you figure out ways to handle it, or ways to avoid it all together.

If you need to talk to someone, or if you want to chat, feel free to PM me. Hang in there.

I do talk to a counsler, they all tell me the same thing, that high school is rough. Nice people huh? And this year they won't be there because the school based health center is getting cut

Hey Kali,

I don't think saying school is rough is a very helpful thing! Of course it is rough and I think they could be more helpful than just saying that.

I think it is good you realise what triggers your self harm. Is it particular things about school? Perhaps if you could identify exactly what it is about school you could see if there are other ways to deal with these things rather than self harming.

Could you get a counsellor out of school? It sounds like you may need it if you think you are going to go back to self harm.

I just wanted to say I think you have done fantastic to have been clean for most of the summer I think that shows that you can stop but perhaps all the pressure with school tips you over at times.

Keep going, you can do it
