You need medical attention, just as they do. I mean, yes, you caused it to yourself but you still need just as much help as everyone else. I mean, I've never had to go to a hospital or anything for my cuts or burns but if someone was there that did cause it upon themselves while I was there, I would still consider that they need medical help just as badly as I do. Of course, this is coming from someone with the same problem, but it should still count. I mean, when we were going for me to get stitches we drove right by the emergency room enterance. (I need stitches from a stupid accident) So, I mean, making my wait a little longer for someone who hurt themselves to get stitches wouldn't have bothered me.

You shouldn't have to feel guilty for something like that. It doesn't matter how you got the injuries - the doctors need to and will care for you as well and nicely as you deserve. They should not judge you and you do not have to answer any questions you don't want to. Most importantly, if you receive treatment, you should leave it there. Stitches would help the wounds heal better. Please, don't feel bad. Nobody wants you to and it's quite needless.
Please - next time you want to self-injure, try an alternative listed in the help forums. You can even talk to me if you like. Feel free to private message or e-mail me. I will support you and be a friend to you. =]

Hey there Ellie,

You should not feel guilty for 'wasting the doctors time' if you need medical attention for your injuries. You are as worthy of receiving medical attention as anyone else. Someone may have burned themselves accidentally or someone may have done it on purpose, the point is what is done is done and the fact is that if you need medical attention then you need it, no matter what caused the injury. If you do need medical attention please do reach out for it. Your health is very important and you deserve help as much as anyone else.

However, I do believe that the problem behind the injury should also receive attention if the injuries are self inflicted. I would highly recommend that, if you're not already, you seek some professional help for your issues with self harm and try out alternatives (sticky here) and try and use other coping mechanisms rather than hurting yourself. As you're already aware, self harm can cause serious injury which can be avoided with the correct help and support (such as a counsellor/therapist/doctor).

Take care.
