Probably nothing at all, celebrating it would be far too conspicuous since nobody else does

I always wear an orange shirt on the day. No one really knows.

But it makes me feel cool

Re: SIAD - January 22nd 2009, 03:34 PM

The official color is orange, so try to wear orange on March 1st.

You can also make a bracelet:
All orange beads signifies that your support
All orange except for one white signifies that you are a self injurer trying to stop
And orange and white beads signifies that you are a former self injurer.

EDIT: Just saw your above post, could he do a report/project type thing and talk to people about it? Maybe see if there is anyway it could be mentioned at his school or something?

Agreed. I wish that I did "celebrate" it, or feel as though I could, however it would just cause a fuss and making claims etc etc.

I wish that I could though, and I hope that everyone who does feel like they can celebrate it gets something successful done

Re: SIAD - January 22nd 2009, 04:38 PM

I will be trying to wear orange, but I have to find an orange shirt first. I probably will wear my new TWLOHA shirt if it gets here on time. Which seems to be forever. Lmao.

I think this is a really cool day to look back on yourself, if you self harm, why? Do you want to stop? Or perhaps celebrate how you self harmed last year, but don't this year. Or how long you've been self harm free.

Even if you're afraid to participate from people finding out, two things. You could wear orange under another shirt so you sort of feel like you're participating, just not out right. Or just tell people (Who ask, which not many do around me, if any) that you have a friend who self harms and you're supporting her or something.

Somehow that doesn't sound like something I would want to eat.

I always wear a TWLOHA shirt, my red ED awareness bracelet (because it goes, of course), I have love written on me, SIAD on my hand, etc. I am always a little more vocal on that day, talking about it and promoting it.

Great idea !
I have a TWLOHA shirt too, I think I just might do that.
When is self harm awareness day, anyway?
Or is it just any day we want it to be? :P

Re: SIAD - January 23rd 2009, 01:08 PM

I love all these SI awareness days, TWLOHA days, etc. Unfortunately last TWLOHA day, at my school I promoted it a lot, and everyone looked at me funny and wondered if I was a cutter. (My school is really small, and everyone knows each other really well. And given the depressed way I've been acting, it shouldn't be too hard to put two and two together...) So I'm sort of afraid to promote SIAD too much. We'll see how it goes. I'll be wearing orange, though, and making a bracelet!!

Hey Carey-

Why don't you go to a thrift store or something and get a cheap orange shirt? Or a second-hand store may have a cheap orange/white bracelet, or something of the sort. You can find things for fairly cheap. =) Sometimes they have plain colored shirts for less than five bucks at the goodwill by us.

Also be careful of who you're giving your address out to. While we try to only allow safe people to be on TeenHelp, you never know who could be out there.

It'd be the same thing for me.
+ I'd get made fun of for sure if I even so much as talked about why I was wearing an orange bracelet and such. But I'm just gonna do it anyway, and tell whoever asks.

I'm the guy from the other forums that was mentioned in the first post.

Thanks everbody for your imput, as stated I was a self injurer, and I would like to get involved as much as I can. I do not go to school, I am actually a youth pastor, so most of my time goes to the Church. I was thinking of maybe making a presentation for my youth around that day, or something. I really want to get involved, since I have been there before.

Any other ideas would be appreciated, I will work on my bracelet pretty soon.

I'm realllly happy people have posted about this...as others have said, I hadn't heard of the day before. Am planning on getting bracelet-making stuff for myself and a few friends, because I don't have any orange shirts and plus making the orange/white bracelet sounds cool

This was asked before, but is there a website anyone knows about?

A website I've found one recently it is http://www.selfharm.org/siad/index.html that right there is the link to the SAID page it's got alot of info, and also it has a part where you can order the bracelets, umm they're like the live strong ones, except orange :] hope that helps,
As a side note: another website for self injurers I've found is http://www.self-injury.net/

Ooh, those bracelets and keyrings are cool. And it's awesome because I'm just starting to use keys a lot, so I'd have a place to actually put a key ring on! I'm also going to wear an orange shirt, with a white shirt under it to add in the white.
And I'm about to order a keyring I think. They're a good price. In my opinion anyway.

Can anyone see how long they take to ship to the US?

Oooh I want a bracelet off the website.
But I don't have a credit card so I'll just have to make my own.
I love this idea
