cracked - September 19th 2009, 05:09 PM

Well I did know this would happen eventually, but I cracked and cut myself. I haven't told my friend about it yet who I usually confide in. I'm thinking I should just stop talking about it to people in general. I promised myself I would go to one of my teachers and tell them if I cut again, but I can't. My parents just can not find out about this.

Also people keep noticing my old scars. A girl who sits behing me in history asked me what happened to my arm. I really respect her for asking someone she hardly knows that question, but five other people have asked me about the scars and I'm starting to get annoyed.

Hey Andy,

I'm so sorry that you slipped up, but you can't let youself get so down about it. Slip ups do happen! It's part of the recovery process. I think you should continue to talk to your friends about this. Support is key in recovery and you won't be able to get help unless you talk to someone about this.
You are so strong to be able to go as long as you did without cutting, so now you have a goal. You have to beat this period that you've gone through without cutting. It will give you someone to look forward and something to beat. Try looking at it that way.
Remember the alternatives as well. You've been here a while, so I'm guessing you know about them. They are a sticky on this forum. I would suggest printing them out, maybe write a few down that you like and put them where you keep your tools to cut and then when you go to that spot because you feel like cutting, you will see them and realise that you don't need to cut and instead you can use an alternative. You just have to stick with them. Also don't forget about hotlines, those can help to.
I'm sorry that you've slipped up, but things happen, just keep trying, and keep talking with your friends.

Take care,
