so damn tempting - September 30th 2009, 10:10 PM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of self harm, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

i want to cut so bad it's crazy. i especially wanna do it on my arm, because for me it hurts much more than on my leg. the 'problem' is, i can't. i work as a nurse assistant so i have to wear uniforms all the time, and they're short sleeved. my boss is very strict about dressing and even the way i should style my hair, wear or rather don't wear make-up so they'd be impossible to cover up. my previous scars on my arm are still a little visible, but they are generally mistaken (when even noticed by someone) for something else, like a bicycle accident's scars. i did them months ago though, and i'm not sure they'll ever completely fade away. anyway. i just wanna do it and it's extremely tempting, i don't wanna lose my job but i can't do this any longer either. fuck.

Hey there, Christie.

I'm really sorry you're struggling with this right now! I can understand how difficult it is to resist the temptation to hurt yourself, but just hold onto the fact that you can resist. This is something a lot of people struggle with, and something a lot of those people overcome. With time and effort, you can beat this. I'm sure of it.

You have your answer right there in your post, Christie. You can't cut, because there is way too much at stake. You know this. So don't cut, it's honestly not worth it. I bet you'd regret it so much, and would just be angry with yourself. I've seen you posting in the 'Self Harm Free!' thread, and I can see that you've slipped up once or twice. But you know what? That's okay! Slip-ups are part of recovery, so many people experience them along the way. The important thing is to pick yourself back up and start again! Look at all those people in the Self Harm Free thread fighting the same thing as you. You're not alone! We're all in this together, Christie, and we're all going to beat this together.

Alternatives. Do you use them, Christie? If not, I'd highly suggest that you start trying some out. Here's our Alternatives thread: Alternatives To Self Harm. Not everything in there is going to work for you.. but I'm positive you'll find something that will. Even just reading through them can act as a distraction until the urge leaves!

It's going to be okay, Christie, honestly. You can beat this. Just stay strong, all right? PM me if you ever need to talk about anything. I'm more than happy to listen. Chin up. <3

Hi cammygirl,

You have to take your recovery one step at a time. i agree read the Alternatives To Self Harm. When you feel the need to self harm read that and see if you can change the self harm with something else. Once you keep replacing self harm with something that doesnt harm yuorself you might even find you wont need to self harm anymore. it wont be easy but once you are self harm free i think you will be so happy and life would be great for you. you just need to hang in there be the strong person i know you can be. take care of yourself and if you need someone to chat to or vent pm me .

thanks. i've tried alternatives, and they didn't work for me. i have a dbt 'workbook' (i have borderline personality disorder), and that gave me alternatives as well, but they just don't hurt enough.
