Basicly i quit self harming 10 months ago then this weekend got me starting agian. I have litrelly tried everything but this seems to be the only thing that gives me relief.
Has anyone got any ideas on what i can do to not only stop but to never start agian because belive me people think its easy btu its like smoking its never easy

Hey Kat,

I don't think stopping self harming is easy at all. It is actually a very difficult thing to do but that doesn't mean to say that you can't do it because you can. Actually wanting to stop is the first step though. 10 months without self harm is just soooo amazing! You should be so proud of yourself for not doing it for that long. You might have had a slip up now but you can't change that now but you can change how you deal with the urges in the future.

What got you through so long without self harm? There must have been something that helped you for all that time to not do it. Perhaps whatever it was could help you to get through the urges to self harm at the moment. Does anyone know about your self harm? It might help to talk to someone about it. Just remember that you don't have to go through this all alone. Stay strong

Your right it isnt easy but it can be done. first of all try and get rid of all your tools that you use to self harm, next try reading the alternatives thread if you haven't already done so. It's about distracting yourself from the urges until it passes. Try some of these:
Wax your legs( it will give you sensation (other than pain) without harming yourself) , Say “I’ll self harm in fifteen minutes if I still want to” and keep going for periods of fifteen minutes until the urge fades, Watch TV or a movie or even paint your nails. In the alternative thread there is more there. Do something that distracts you also letting a family member in can also help . they can support you through this tough time. Pm me if you need anything

Hey kat i know how you feel I used to cut to. I have been self harm free since March or April. Like many addictions we will always be recovering we will never be fully healed. We just got to stay strong I understand how you feel because I am so afraid of a relapse but thats ok we are allowed mistakes its how we learn. So stick in there kat.

hi try the rubber band trick...wear a rubber band on your wrist...whenever you feel like cutting....snap it...it hurts but...not as damaging as cutting...
