what to do? - October 13th 2009, 12:24 AM

I have a problem with scratching my arms or cutting them. I scratch them until I leave big sores. No matter how many times I try to stop, I really can't. It might be self hate, or low self esteem I don't know. I've tried stopping but i can't go more then 24 hours before i do it again. I did tell someone but its weird talking about it, and i can NOT tel my parents. I just don't know what to do.

Hey,

Firstly, I wanted to say welcome to Teenhelp I hope you like it here and are able to get the support you need. I am always here if you need someone to talk to.

Self harm is just so addictive, which makes it so hard to stop. But that doesn't mean to say you can't stop because you can. It might take time but you will get there. I think you did well to tell someone before. Could you chat to that person about it again? Or could you talk to someone else you trust? It might just help to have someone you can talk it through with. I think the sooner you tell someone and get some support the sooner things can begin to change.

Stay strong
