Question Bone? - January 27th 2009, 10:13 PM

I hadnt cut for two months, but I did this morning, at school. It had probably been the worst I've ever done. I just felt that I couldnt be caught, that nobody would walk in, and that nobody would see. In a hurry to release everything, I accidently stapped myself. I use a lancet, something that diabetics use to prick their fingers. I need your help, if you dont mind. You know the side of your wrist where the bone jots out, I hit that, It didnt break it of course, but the bone itself has been hurting all day. I didnt think it was possible to hit your bone without tearing your wrist to shreds, but I am almost sure that I did, is this possibe? Or does my wrist just ache from cutting and I am just substituting this for bone pain? I dont know anything anymore. I broke my record of two months, yeah I am that pathetic. My best friend is leaving, my 2nd best seems to far gone to confide in, and my other friend attempted suicide then switched schools. I am scared to death that my mother will find out that I am cutting again, or that I will have to talk to a school counselor. Help anyone?

Hey-

I would imagine it'd be possible to hit a bone or ligament there? But I honestly am not entirely sure. Check out a site about wrist anatomy or something of the sort. Here is the best site I found with just a quick check around.

If you wrist doesn't stop hurting soon, I'd really suggest seeing a doctor, if something is wrong, it should be dealt with promptly.

I'm sorry about your two months, but two months is amazing! And I'm so proud of you! Perhaps look at it as you've been self harm free 60 days out of 61 or something of the sort. It's discouraging to have to start your count all over again each time you relapse.

Keep safe!
Maria.

to be honest i think its quite unlikely that you hit the bone without having your wrists torn to shreds, however i guess it is possible. if your wrist is still in a lot of pain then the only thing you can do is seek medical help. i should think as long as you look after the cuts then it should heal up ok. more importantly, you need to think about the future and what alternatives you can use to distract yourself from cutting, check out the alternatives stickie.

are you talking about the side where your thumb is, that knobbly looking thing?
if you hit that, go to the doctor.
if there are scratches, say you got hit on your locker, that happen to me all the time...

Yes I am, It still hurts and it was two days ago. I am a little worried. I cant go to the doctor without telling my mother, and having a legit reason to go. The last time I asked to go in by myself she woulnt let me and later found out that I wanted to go in alone because I neeed to talk to the doctor about cutting. So if I said I wanted to go alone assumptions would be made and I will be back in counseling.

You obviously need to see a doctor. Why should you let your mother stop you from getting help? Maybe you'll be put in counseling, maybe not. If you are, in the end it might be the best thing for you even if you don't enjoy it.

i agree with udontno

you HAVE to go to the doctor...
if you hit it, something could be stuck in the actual bone because bones are relatively soft...

heres a suggestion:
tell her its for something "down there" and you would feel more comfortable withou her in the room...
thats what i did once, but it really was for "down there"
lol

Thanks for the advice, I may try that. If there is something in the bone I would rather it not stay there.

I'm sorry to hear you went back to self harm...and I would also like to congratulate you fornot for the previous 2 months.
I would think you might have hit the ligamant, it's very unlikely you hit the bone.
All I can suggest really, is tht you go to a doctor as soon as possible...just to get it checked out..they should be able to tell you what's hurting ya'.Also, they'll keep it confidential..so not as much to worry about. ^^
Good luck. =D

Hmm I don't know where you live but you could go and make the doctor's appointment yourself, that way your mum won't have to know and you can go on your own without her wanting to put you back into counselling.
