Hey-

I'm really sorry you felt bad enough to cut. Have you been trying to stop, or not really? Either is okay.

Did you try anything else before you cut, or did you just go straight for it? Find a list of distractions, like one on the stickies in this forum, and promise yourself to try three of them before you cut. Usually, you'll get enthralled in one of the three things you chose, and you'll forget you wanted to cut. =)

If you need stitches, I urge you to go and get them. To see a doctor. Even make up a lie about it if you really have to, it's important to get cuts well taken care of, and it's a responsibility you accept when you do self-harm.

Good luck. I hope everything goes okay.
Maria.

It's alright everyone has slip ups sometimes. We just have to keep on trying.

It's up to you whether or not to get stitches, but remember that there is an increased risk of infection with a wound like that. Be sure you are taking care of it properly otherwise, keeping it clean, eating a lot of fiber and veggies for faster healing, etc. If you do not properly care for your wound it is your responsibility to accept what might happen. I recommend getting them if you need them.

SH often does feel good for while...the endorphins rushing through the system have a relaxing/calming effect on one if they were stressed out or in emotional pain. But when all the consequences rush in- poorer self image, less trust for yourself and from others, the upset feelings of those who love you, possibly being sent to a hospital, schoolwork or your job suffering...those are hefty consequences. And it's then that the "bad" reality of SH sets in. People SH as long as the consequences are tolerable, but often there is a line that each person will not cross (the price is too great). It is when that person crosses the line that they may start to fight at getting better.

You did not mention whether or not you were trying to recover, but know that there will always be support here for you at TH. PM me if you ever need anything.
