Oh man, i haven't been on this forum in ages... - September 18th 2010, 04:01 PM

I stopped self harming on august fifth and haven't done it once since... It's really really hard though. I don't think i can do it for much longer, i'm going to slip up. It's on my mind A LOT! and i just can't get it off. My arms get these feelings that make it even worse... it's like they want to be cut, they're just waiting for it..My boyfriend told me he would rather have me talk to him about things than cut but... i mean i can't talk to him every second of the day

Hey there Jessica. First of all you're doing a great job going so long self harm free! It really isn't an easy thing to do so you're showing a hell of a lot of strength for resisting that urge for so long. Even if you do slip up now you've still done a fantastic job and that achievement of not having self harmed for so long still stands.

You say that you get a feeling on your arm where it is almost asking to be cut, and honestly, that's something I can relate to. How do you cope at the moment with that urge? Perhaps you could look for a distraction? As you say you get the feeling on your arm have you ever tried pressing ice where you feel you want to cut, that way you still have the physical feeling.

It's really good that your boyfriend has said that you can talk to him, it sounds like he really cares about you which is great because when you're trying not to self harm it's important that you have the support of people around you. But you're right. You can't talk to him all the time. Have a look through the distraction list at the top of this forum because you might be able to find something else that you could do to get through the urges at times when you can't talk to your boyfriend. If there's things that you need to say or get out of your system writing them down might be something you could try.

I even heard your mamma wanted some of this...

Hey, I know this feeling quite well. But, hard to engage in a discussion when the boyfriend is working.

What I find helps is trying to push off the feeling, just push at it, distract yourself, etc. until you CAN talk to the boyfriend again, then just let it all out and he can try to help you feel better, since it seems thats what he wants to do.

I have looked at the distraction list more times than i can count and various other lists from different websites and whatnot, they never really worked for me...
I can't do the ice thing, i did it once and it lead right back to cutting, the feeling of it made me relapse when i get the feelings on my arm i try to ignore it and continue whatever i'm doing until it goes away and if it doesn't i rub my arm. not hard i just put some feeling on it, you know?
Thank you guys so much for your support i really appreciate it and if i do slip up, the time i haven't done it won't mean a thing to me.

Hey Jess,

Just remind yourself of how amazing you've been with resisting so far. Like you said in your thread title, you haven't had to visit this forum in a long time and that is definitely an awesome thing. You've made it this far and I definitely think you can keep going, hang in there!
