Question Stopping?? - November 12th 2010, 09:53 PM

If I want to get better, I need to stop cutting but I don't want to stop as I need it. I don't know what to do. Recently i've been cutting more and I don't know how I can stop when I need it to keep going but I know I cant keep going this way as i'm ruining my life.
I don't even know if i want to get better!
I don't know what to do any more!

I know how you're feeling and it's ok to feel this way.

When cutting becomes such a big part of your life, it's like a safe haven and you don't neccesarily want to let go of it, even though you know it's unhealthy and not good for you. It's hard to let go of something that you believe keeps you sane and keeps you going, even when everybody else believes that it makes you insane, but, you can do it.

Maybe you just need help? Confide in someone about your issue and they can support you and encourage you to stop and not be tempted by cutting? Either someone you trust, family or friend, or a professional if you need that kind of support.

There's always hope, hold on to it and be strong

I'm stopping too and I know that it's hard. You always need to have people to talk to that will be willing to help you through challenges. Getting rid of triggering things as well as finding ways to do something more productive and not harmful to yourself is what you need to do

The fact that you want to stop is absolutely wonderful! Stopping is very hard but there is a number of ways to do it so you can choose what works for you better. You can slowly decrease it.. say you do it every day multiple times a day you can move to every day once a day, then when you're okay with that you can do it every other day and so on and so forth. Another way is to stop it completely and create a healthy substitute for cutting, when you feel like cutting you can go out for a jog or work out, you could sing and blast music in your room, you could try the butterfly project which is, you draw a butterfly on where ever you cut and don't cut.. when it fades away you draw another one and if you cut while the butterfly is still on you then you wash off that butterfly and make a new one! There are so many things you can do to stop, also have you tried talking to your parents about this? Or seeing a therapist? I think you shuld consider some of these things to help make stopping easier for you.
Good luck I hope everything works out well for you, if you want to talk about anything at all feel free to PM me anytime
