Hey there,
I'm glad you've reached out for help. That's a big step! I'm proud of you. Self-harm is definitely addictive and it is hard to overcome...BUT, you CAN overcome it. You are stronger than self-harm and you don't need it. You can beat it. Here's the link to the self-harm alternatives sticky: http://www.teenhelp.org/alternatives Check that list out. Those are all things that you can do instead of hurting yourself, and they can really help you overcome urges. There are A LOT of different things to try, so if the first few things you try don't help much, don't give up. Have you ever tried counseling? You might want to consider that. A counselor could help you develop new, healthy coping mechanisms and could be someone for you to talk to about why you feel like hurting yourself, or anything that bothers you in general. It's helpful to have a support system while you are trying to give up self-harm. People that you can go to when you're having a rough day/night. I know it's a scary thing to think about, telling people that you hurt yourself...but, I'm sure there are people who would love to support you if you would let them. And you always have us here at TeenHelp to support you too! I've just found it helpful in the past to have at least one person that is there to encourage me and someone that I can turn to if I can't handle an urge alone. And it is more and more helpful the more people that you have like that. It helps remind you that you aren't alone and that people really care about your wellbeing. It is scary telling them at first, but I've found that most of the time, people are glad that you told them...that you trusted them with something so personal. I'm also going to give you the link to the list of hotlines. If you're ever in immediate danger of hurting yourself, or if you think that might try to take things too far, you can call one of these hotlines. It's free and confidential, so use them if you need to! http://www.teenhelp.org/hotlines Remember that you aren't alone and that you can overcome this. I hope that this has helped. If you ever need to talk, you can always PM me! Hang in there! ![]() Great works are performed not by strength, but by perseverance. PM me anytime <3 |
