Excuses - December 10th 2010, 12:39 AM

I have SI scars on my thighs and I swim in the summertime. I am terribly pale and also have a doctor's appointment in January. If anyone ever notices the scars while swimming or while I'm at the doctor, what are some excuses I could use as to why my thighs are cut up? I don't want my brother in law to ask about it. It started out with only wanting to do just one cut on my thighs but I soon did many more, so a good excuse would really help, please? Thanks!

Hey Vividdream,
I don't want to give you excuses so you could continue to SI, but i understand that it is very hard to stop. I swim in the winter on swim team and i tell people that my scars are from allergy scratch tests. Allergy tests usually do not scar, but 90% of people don't know that. But, for doctors, it's important for them to know. I'd encourage you to tell them if you can. Doctors can be a great help in stopping. But i understand if you're under 18 and don't want your parents to find out. Just consider it.

Hope that helps!

Perhaps you need to think about what is the worst thing that could happen if you told people the truth? People may judge you but to be honest that says more about them than about you. However, they could actually be supportive of you. Your doctor is there to help you so if you did tell them the truth they would only want to help and do what is best for you. I think you should tell the truth especially to your doctor. Your doctor may even be able to suggest something to help with the scars if you told them.
