Controlling my anger - February 24th 2009, 10:12 PM

Hi sorry to post this. I'm just kinda ranting. I have anxiety and frequent panic attacks. When I get really angry, I take my anger out on myself. I can't control it. And it happens anywhere. School, stores, around my mom. My mom.... When she sees my wrist, she threatens to take me to the hospital. I don't know how to control my anger. I don't wanna hurt myself...

Hiya Maurana

Well done for being brave enough to post.

Have you tried anger managment, & also are you on any mediction to help calm you down.& help your anxiety & panic attacks.

I think you should see your local doctor or therapist, they will help give you some advice.

Not wanting to hurt yourself is one step to recovery, so congrats on taking the first step.

Take care

Hey Maurana,

First of all, don't apologize for posting, it's what we're here for :].Second of all, controlling your anger can be a difficult thing. It's certainly a skill that many people need to learn and better. I'm sure no one can control their anger all of the time. But, a lot of people can do it on a healthy basis. When you feel like you can't control anything without harming yourself or others, I think it's time to ask for some outside advice. And there isn't anything wrong with asking for some help either. Everyone gets to a point where they need a little extra help here and there. You're not a lesser person for it. I realize you might not want to hurt yourself, so use that want to try and get the help you need. Maybe you can talk to your mom and schedule an appointment with a therapist. They have special therapy classes designed specifically for helping people with issues controlling their anger. I strongly suggest getting some time of help like that. Until then, however, you might want to try keeping a journal or something along those lines. Maybe you can make a list of things that calm you down. Things you can do or think or watch or read. Whenever you feel yourself getting angry or upset, bring the list out and go down it one by one, trying them all. For now, you could try a list of 5 for now and continually add more on. It's just a thought. If you need to talk about anything, I'm only a PM away. Take care. :]

Well I have a psych and am currently on two medications. She tells me to wait till the medicine kicks in. I've only been on it for a month. My mom doesn't help at all. She just threatens to take me to the hospital. She has bipolar, so she should understand, but she doesn't(go figure).
