The butterfly project - December 23rd 2010, 06:54 PM

I read about the butterfly project on here, and i think its really awesome. I've been doing it for a few days now. i was wondering how many others have tried it and how it is working out for them, and some other really good methods i should try

Is it bad that I've been self harming for so long I think I remember when this project was started? I've done it before, with great success. Someone once told me that in an AA meeting they were discussing methods to help you recover. The stance is, "If it works for you, then work it." If this is something that is going to aid you in your recovery (without a negative impact or harming yourself) then go for it!

I like to journal my feelings when I've got an urge to hurt myself. Anything to get my mind off of it.

I saw your thread, and had no idea what the butterfly project was, so I looked it up. I totally love the idea; it's so creative. I think I may give it a try next time the urge hits me =)

For anyone looking it up, the links is:

A friend recommended it to me, I've been trying to stay strong, but just remember that butterflies are fragile creatures, and we need to find the strength to protect them, as they protect us.

Re: The butterfly project - December 27th 2010, 02:42 PM

I've tried it before, but it doesn't work for me personally because I have problems with guilt; when I was still cutting, if I tried to stop for another person and ended up slipping, I just felt worse. But I've been clean for more than 3 months now, aside from the random urge of missing it. I'm glad that the butterfly project works for you I think it's a really sweet idea. As for me, I'm more likely to write/jump in a river/climb on an abandoned train. All of which are good distractions, by the way.

Back when I SH'd quite frequently I tried it (except mine was a bunny for some reason ) and it helped me stop for a bit. I also sometimes write on my arm "stay strong" and things

Re: The butterfly project - January 4th 2011, 04:25 AM

I've been engaged in the Butterfly Project for two days, and it's working pretty well so far. I operate well on guilt, so this works for me.

My best friend, who doesn't SH, has started drawing butterflies for me, and we've been photoblogging the progress.

I've got five butterflies on my left hand, and I anticipate more. But it's a visual reminder, and that helps to stifle the urge.

Here's to hoping the new year brings change!

Re: The butterfly project - January 4th 2011, 05:24 AM

I actually have a butterfly tattoo, because of the fact that I'm a recovering self-harmer. I've been SH free for almost a year, but I definitely consider myself "recovering", not "recovered."

But yeah, my butterfly was my very first tattoo It's kind of like an eternal promise that I won't SH again.
